OpenAI probes ChatGPT service disruption
KUALA LUMPUR: Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI is investigating a major disruption to its ChatGPT service, which has left users worldwide, including in Malaysia, unable to access the popular AI chatbot today.
The outage has triggered a surge of complaints on platforms like Down Detector, with over 1,400 reports in the UK and more than 1,000 in the US logged at its peak, the Sun UK reported.
Malaysian users have also taken to social media to express frustration, with many saying they received random error messages when trying to access the platform.
The most common error reads: "A network error occurred. Please check your connection and try again. If this issue persists, please contact us through our help centre at
In other cases, users encountered a vague message that simply stated: "Hmm… something seems to have gone wrong."
The Sun reported OpenAI has confirmed it is aware of the issue, stating on its official service status page that "some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency."
"We are investigating," the company said.
The problems reportedly began at 9am BST (4pm Malaysian time).
It remains unclear whether the disruption is limited to certain regions or systems, or if it is affecting all 400 million weekly users of the service globally.
