New court proves a challenge for Pearly-Thinaah, but they still come out victorious
PETALING JAYA: Not all the changes introduced at this year's Indonesian Open have been well received by the players particularly the new blue court surface at Istora Senayan. For women's doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, even though they cleared their first-round hurdle yesterday, adapting to the court conditions proved challenging. In fact, the pair admitted they were not entirely pleased with their performance despite securing a 21-16, 21-17 win over Taiwan's Sung Shuo-yan-Yu Chien-hui. 'To be honest, we're not really happy with our performance today (yesterday). 'It's a new court for us, and the shuttle felt a little different from what we expected. 'But we tried to adapt, discussed things with each other and the coaches, and did what we could,' said Thinaah in an interview with BWF. Pearly-Thinaah will have a chance to exact revenge on behalf of their compatriots, Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee, when they face Indonesia's Lanny Tria Mayasari and Siti Fadia Ramadhanti in the second round today. Mei Xing-Pei Kee fell short in a hard-fought first-round battle against the home pair, losing 21-19, 16-21, 19-21. Meanwhile, young duo Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting will take on sixth seeds Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi of Japan today after pulling off a gritty comeback win over Indonesia's Isyana Syahira-Rinjani Nastine, 10-21, 21-14, 21-17, in the opening round yesterday.

Pearly-Thinaah overcame Taiwan's Shuo-yan-Chien-hui in Indonesian Open first round
PETALING JAYA: Women's doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah lived up to their billing as the fourth seeds after clearing the first hurdle at the Indonesian Open with a straight-game win over Taiwan's Sung Shuo-yan-Yu Chien-hui on Wednesday (June 4). Despite having to adjust to the new look and feel of the Istora Senayan courts, Pearly-Thinaah held their composure to claim a 21-16, 21-17 victory in 42 minutes. They will next face home favourites Lanny Tria Mayasari-Siti Fadia Ramadhanti in the second round on Thursday (June 5). Lanny-Siti had earlier dashed the hopes of another Malaysian pair, Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee, who fought valiantly but eventually lost 21-19, 16-21, 19-21 in front of a raucous home crowd at the iconic venue in Istora Senayan, Jakarta. Meanwhile, the young pair Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting will face a tough test on Thursday (June 5) against Japan's sixth seeds Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi after pulling off a comeback win over Indonesia's Isyana Syahira-Rinjani Nastine 10-21, 21-14, 21-17 in the opening round.
