Drug hub shut down in Sungai Buloh as police net 50 in sweeping raid

KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — A targeted police operation in Sungai Buloh has dismantled a local drug distribution point and led to 50 arrests, including a suspected supplier. The Selangor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) conducted 'Ops Sarang' on May 31 after identifying the area as a drug hotspot. According to police, addicts would loiter at the site and wait for drug dealers to arrive with supplies. During the operation, JSJN officers arrested one local man believed to be a supplier who sold drugs directly to users at the scene. Among the 50 arrested were 47 Malaysian men, one Malaysian woman and two foreign men, all aged between 20 and 60. Police seized over 273 grams of heroin, 184 grams of syabu and 20 grams of Erimin 5, with a combined street value estimated at RM15,771. Investigations are ongoing under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, depending on the role of each suspect.

Motorcyclist killed as lorry crashes into stall and mosque fence in Sungai Buloh

SUNGAI BULOH, May 30 — A 30-year-old man was killed when a lorry rammed into a motorcycle, a roadside stall, and the fence of a mosque in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh yesterday afternoon. The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said it received a distress call at 1.36pm about the incident near Masjid Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh and deployed a team to the scene, as reported by the New Straits Times. 'The accident involved a Nissan UD lorry, which collided with a motorcycle of unknown make before ploughing into a roadside stall and the mosque's perimeter fence,' said operations commander Rosdi Hainan in a statement. 'Our personnel successfully extricated the man by 1.44pm. He was later pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel,' he added. Rosdi said the man was found unconscious and trapped beneath the lorry when the rescue team arrived. The team of six firefighters from the Sungai Buloh Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location just three minutes after receiving the call. The victim's body was handed over to the police for further action. No other injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Man attacked in Sungai Buloh over TikTok advice urging group to stop behaving like gangsters

SUNGAI BULOH, May 26 — A 47-year-old man was reportedly attacked by a group of individuals in the Bandar Seri Coalfields (BSC) residential area yesterday, over a TikTok livestream. According to a report in Sinar Harian, the group was allegedly unhappy with remarks the man made during the livestream, where he offered them advice. Sungai Buloh District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor reportedly said police received two viral video clips related to the incident at 12.57am. The attack took place after the man had advised several individuals not to fight, not to behave like gangsters, and to engage in respectful political discussion. 'The statement is believed to have touched on the sensitivities of the parties involved, leading to a physical assault on the victim at his residence,' Mohd Hafiz was quoted as saying. The assault reportedly occurred at a residential guard post. The victim reportedly made a police report and the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison, a fine, or both.

Fight slander with stronger social media presence, Ramanan tells PKR

PKR's R Ramanan warned that if the party did not step up its efforts, whatever allegations the opposition threw at the government would be accepted as the truth by the public. JOHOR BAHRU : PKR vice-president R Ramanan has called on the party to strengthen its social media presence to effectively counter slander ahead of the next general election. Ramanan said one of the key issues the party needs to recognise is its weakness on social media. 'This is something we must take seriously. If we don't address it, we'll face serious problems in the next general election. 'Our biggest enemy is slander. We must always question what we see and hear,' he told the PKR congress here today. Ramanan, who is Sungai Buloh MP, said PKR was very active on social media when the party was part of the opposition. 'But once we became part of the government, we became complacent. We took it easy. Slander spreads easily,' he warned. He said if the party does not step up its efforts, whatever allegations the opposition throws at the government would be accepted as the truth by the public. 'For example, the government has given a lot of assistance to the Indian community. 'But the message isn't reaching the grassroots. The information just isn't getting through.' Just last week, Ramanan had to issue a clarification that the person he was seen giving money to in a viral video was actually an employee of his. The video clip, which was circulated widely, showed Ramanan handing over cash to an individual in front of a Pakatan Harapan office, implying it was meant to buy votes in the party election. He said the incident actually took place after the Selangor state election in 2023 and criticised the recent circulation of the video as a dirty political tactic by certain parties. The deputy entrepreneur and cooperative development minister also did not dismiss the possibility of more dirty tactics being employed by the opposition ahead of PKR's central leadership election held yesterday.
