Indian spectacled cobra, eggs rescued in Ganjam
B Tired of too many ads? go ad free now erhampur: In a 35-minute operation on Tuesday afternoon, snake rescuers saved an Indian spectacled cobra and its 17 eggs from a house in Samalai near Hinjili in Ganjam district. The cobra was found guarding its clutch of eggs near a tree along the boundary of the house. "The situation was particularly challenging because we had to ensure both the snake and eggs remained unharmed during the rescue," said Sandeep Kumar Sethi, one of the rescuers. The snake was released into the wild, while the eggs were handed over to forest officials. Berhampur DFO Sunny Khokkar said the eggs are being kept in a secured environment and are expected to hatch within 10 days. "We're monitoring the eggs closely," said Swadhin Kumar Sahu, another team member. Forest officials and Snake Helpline members are keeping a watch to ensure the eggs hatch safely.

Sunapur Blue Flag beach shut for annual maintenance
1 2 Berhampur: The Blue Flag beach in Ganjam district 's Sunapur has been shut for visitors to carry out annual maintenance . Once the work is completed, the beach will be opened, official sources said. "Annual maintenance is required to attract more visitors and to ensure its Blue Flag status . For this purpose, it has been closed to visitors for past one week. After completion, the beach would be handed over to Vana Surakshya Samiti (VSS) for functioning," said Sunny Khokkar, divisional forest officer (DFO), Berhampur. "Moreover, there are less visitors now due to the scorching heat," he Blue Flag beach in Sunapur stretches over 800 m with facilities like specially designed wheelchairs for differently-abled persons, zero liquid waste discharge, lifeguard towers, trained paramedic staff to provide first aid and installation of CCTV, among others. Forest officials rescue 5 rose-ringed parakeets
Berhampur: Forest officials rescued five rose-ringed parakeets near Bahuda river at Nuapada , under Ganjam district's Digapahandi forest range, two days ago. "The rescued parakeets, listed under Schedule 4 category of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, are under observation," said Sunny Khokkar, divisional forest officer (DFO) Berhampur on Sunday. He said they would soon be released into their natural officials said during patrolling, they came to know about the parakeets. They went to the spot and rescued them. A forest officer said after being rescued they were kept in a safe place. Local veterinary officers have checked their health. At the time of rescue, some of them were weak. Now their condition is Schedule IV of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, capturing, trading, or keeping parakeets as pets is a punishable offence.
