Did you know Saroj Khan fought with Nadeem over Raja song 'Ankhiyan Milaoon Kabhi'? 'Aapka kaam hai gana shoot karna, gana select kabse karne lagi aap?'
The song 'Ankhiyan Milaoon Kabhi' from the movie Raja faced initial conflict. Choreographer Saroj Khan doubted the song's simple music arrangement. Composer Nadeem stood firm on his creation. Khan challenged Nadeem and created iconic choreography. Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Kapoor starred in the song. The song became a major hit. It is now remembered as one of Khan's best works.
Not all iconic songs start with instant love. In the case of Ankhiyan Milaoon Kabhi from the 1995 film Raja, it took a clash between two Bollywood greats—choreographer
Saroj Khan
and composer Nadeem—to create what is now considered one of the most memorable dance numbers of the era.
In a recent appearance on The Ashok Pandit Show, lyricist
Sameer
revealed that Saroj had a strong initial reaction to the song 'Ankhiyan Milaoon Kabhi' during its recording at Sunny Sound studio. Surprised by its minimal arrangement, she questioned composer Nadeem's choice to use just one instrument, wondering how she could choreograph such a track.
At the time, composer Nadeem—part of the legendary Nadeem-Shravan duo—was at the height of his success.
Sameer shared that when Saroj Khan expressed her doubts, Nadeem firmly reminded her that her role was to choreograph, not choose songs. He confidently stated that the track would remain unchanged, regardless of who stayed on the project.
The exchange didn't end with Nadeem's remark. According to Sameer, Saroj Khan stormed out of the studio, visibly upset. She reportedly lashed out at Nadeem, questioning his attitude, and declared with determination, 'Send me the song—I'll show you what I can do,' setting the stage for one of the most iconic choreographies of her career.

Despite her initial reservations, Saroj Khan went on to transform the very song she doubted into a visual spectacle. As Sameer recalled, once the track was fully mixed,
Madhuri Dixit
and
Sanjay Kapoor
joined the shoot—and what followed was pure magic. The choreography became one of Saroj's most celebrated creations.
