PFF: Soon-to-be free agent was Chiefs' highest-graded player in Super Bowl LIX
The Kansas City Chiefs' 2024 season ended after the team's humiliating 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bow LIX on Sunday. Despite the Chiefs' lackluster performance, a few of Kansas City's players managed to put together respectable showings against the Eagles that helped keep the final score relatively close. Though Philadelphia managed to score 40 points, the Chiefs' defense was dominant throughout most of Sunday's heartbreaking loss, especially when it came to stopping Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. The experts at Pro Football Focus took notice of defensive lineman Tershawn Wharton's efforts in the lopsided contest. PFF assessed that Wharton was Kansas City's top performer in the game, and awarded him an outstanding 90.1 grade in the game, which was the highest mark among all of the Chiefs' players: Highest-graded #Chiefs players in Super Bowl LIX, via @PFF: 🥇DT, Tershawn Wharton (90.1) 🥈WR, Xavier Worthy (87.4) 🥉S, Bryan Cook (86.9) 4) S, Jaden Hicks (76.2) 5) LB, Nick Bolton (72.8) 6) C, Creed Humphrey (72.1) *minimum 20 snaps — KC Sports Network (@KCSportsNetwork) February 10, 2025 Wharton's contract is set to expire in the offseason, but his standout performance in Super Bowl LIX may be enough to convince Chiefs general manager Brett Veach to resign him before he hits the open market in free agency.

Thought the Super Bowl was boring? Check out these ratings
Fox Sports didn't need a close game to set a new Super Bowl record. The family of networks announced Monday that the Philadelphia Eagles' blowout of the Kansas City Chiefs was the most watched Super Bowl of all time. According to the projections shared by Fox Sports, the average audience size was 126 million. That figure includes people who watched on Fox, Fox Deportes, Tubi, Telemundo or NFL digital properties. Thanks to the strong performance of Tubi, in particular, Super Bow LIX also set a record for streaming viewership, with around 14.5 million of the 126 million viewers using streaming services to catch the game. NEW NO. 1! 🏆A projected 126 million viewers watched #SuperBowlLIX – delivering new record-high viewership for the Super Bowl. — FOX Sports PR (@FOXSportsPR) February 11, 2025 The 2025 Super Bowl ratings are surprising since the game was essentially over by the end of the first half. The Eagles went into the break with a 24-0 lead, and the Chiefs had just 23 yards of total offense at that point in the game. The numbers shared by Fox Sports showed that viewership did peak in the second quarter, when around 135.7 million people were tuned in, but most of the viewers did stick around for the second half. 'Generally, televised sporting events see a drop if the margin of victory gets out of hand. An industry source said the game held steady viewership for most of the second half until dropping late in the fourth quarter,' The Athletic reported. The Athletic noted that Fox likely benefited from the fact that the 2025 Super Bowl featured two highly popular teams. 'There is always significant publicity for every Super Bowl matchup, but this one was boosted by two teams that have been viewership draws in recent years, especially the Chiefs,' the article said. 'There is no Chiefs fatigue when it comes to viewership. At least not yet.'

When's the last time Eagles and Chiefs played? Regular season history, playoff record, more Show Caption Hide Caption Who is the most important player on Eagles & Chiefs in Super Bow LIX? USAT's Tyler Dragon and Lorenzo Reyes give his picks on who will lead an important role for their respective teams. Sports Seriousy For the second time in three years, the Chiefs and Eagles are facing off in the Super Bowl. Is that the last time they've played each other? There's been just one other clash between Philadelphia and Kansas City since Super Bowl 57 in 2023. Because the teams are in different conferences, there generally have been fewer opportunities for matchups between the two. As a result, the Eagles and Chiefs have met just 11 times in their respective histories, including their meeting in the Super Bowl two years ago. Sunday's Super Bowl 59 clash will be the 12th matchup ever between Philadelphia and Kansas City, but it will also be the fourth since 2021. Here's what to know about the history of Eagles vs. Chiefs games: When did the Chiefs and Eagles last play? The last time the Chiefs and Eagles played was in Week 11 of the 2023 regular season. Philadelphia came away with the comeback victory on "Monday Night Football," 21-17, to avenge their loss in the Super Bowl nine months earlier. The win was an impressive one for the Eagles, who entered the half trailing, 17-7. The Chiefs didn't score again for the rest of the game, while quarterback Jalen Hurts came alive in the second half. He scored two rushing touchdowns (one on a "Tush Push") to give Philadelphia the 21-17 lead with six minutes left. Then-Chiefs receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling all but sealed his team's loss when he dropped a pass inside the Eagles' 10-yard line after beating the safety. JALEN HURTS: How will Eagles QB play against Chiefs in Super Bowl 59? Chiefs vs. Eagles regular season history The first game between the Chiefs and Eagles happened on Oct. 22, 1972, a couple of years after the AFL-NFL merger. Philadelphia secured its first win of the season in Kansas City, 21-20, after starting the season 0-5. Another two decades passed before the two teams met again. On Oct. 11, 1992, the Chiefs finally got their revenge with a 24-17 win at home. They met for the first time in Philadelphia six years later, where the Chiefs won 24-21. The Eagles won the next three matchups in 2001, 2005 and 2009, but Kansas City went on a four-game win streak with victories in 2013, 2017, 2021 and in the Super Bowl in 2023. Philadelphia snapped the streak with its aforementioned "MNF" win in November 2023. As things stand, the Chiefs have a 6-5 edge against the Eagles all-time entering Sunday's Big Game. Chiefs vs. Eagles playoff record As two teams from different conferences, the only way the Eagles and Chiefs could meet in the postseason is in the Super Bowl. Super Bowl 57 two years ago was their first postseason matchup, which Kansas City won, 38-35. The Eagles can even the series 1-1 with a Super Bowl win on Sunday, but the Chiefs would stay undefeated in postseason matchups against Philadelphia if they exert dominance in another Big Game.
