High street chain closing its doors in Basildon shopping centre this week
A HIGH street fashion brand is closing one of its Essex stores this week. Superdry will shut its doors in Basildon's Eastgate shopping centre on Saturday. The store, based in unit 44 opposite Primark in the centre, has sold clothes for men and women, blending vintage Americana with Japanese and British inspirations, in the town for years. A sign outside the store reads: "This store is closing. "You can continue to shop the full collection at "For returns queries, please speak to a member of staff." The chain's closure follows other big-name brands leaving the town in recent years, including Debenhams, H&M, Marks and Spencer, and Next. However, other popular chains and new independent businesses have opened their doors in Basildon over the past year including Vue, Samuel Perry and Chopstix. Wetherspoon is also hoping to open its new £2.8million pub in the former Poundland this summer. The news of Superdry's closure also follows much-loved booksellers Waterstones announcing it will be returning to the Eastgate after more than a decade. This much-anticipated store is expected to open its doors by the end of April.
