South Burnett man charged with 30 offences following alleged Kingaroy shooting, manhunt
A 25-year-old man has been charged with dozens of offences after allegedly firing shots into a house in the regional Queensland town of Kingaroy.
Authorities received reports of shots fired on Arthur Street just before 4am on Wednesday.
Police said several people were able to leave the property safely before officers arrived.
But the South Burnett man, who was allegedly shooting from outside the property, left the scene before officers arrived and sparked a major police operation.
Kingaroy Hospital was partially locked down and police urged nearby businesses and schools to close for the day.
The man was taken into custody by specialist officers on Foleys Road in Goodger, 15 minutes south of Kingaroy, at about 1:30pm on Wednesday.
The man has been charged with 30 offences, including acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous conduct with a weapon, enter premises to commit indictable offence and attempted enter dwelling with intent whilst armed.
He has also been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and authority required to possess explosives.
The man is expected to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court today.
Superintendent Douglas McDonald said on Wednesday that police would allege the man had a "number of high-powered rifles", all stolen, at the time of his arrest.
"We'll allege that there are a number of firearms found in possession of that person of interest that were stolen from a break-and-enter approximately 24 hours prior to this incident occurring," Superintendent McDonald said.
The man is also accused of stealing a second vehicle as he allegedly attempted to evade police.
Superintendent McDonald said it was too early to say what had "sparked" the incident.
He said a woman who had been at the home was uninjured but was assisting police with the investigation.
"That female person is safe and well and has received treatment and support from police," Superintendent McDonald said.
He thanked the community for its "significant help" as officers searched for the man.
