Amazon adds ‘caregiver' features to pharmacy app

You can find original article here Supermarketnews. Subscribe to our free daily Supermarketnews newsletter. Amazon has added new functions to the Amazon Pharmacy app that better enables caregivers to help manage medications for a loved one. It also gives Medicare Part D recipients access to Amazon Pharmacy's PillPack feature, which provides presorted medication. 'These updates deliver what our customers have been asking for—simpler medication management for themselves and their loved ones,' said John Love, vice president of Amazon Pharmacy. 'Whether you're a caregiver juggling multiple prescriptions for an aging parent, or a customer who could benefit from the convenience of pre-sorted packets delivered reliably each month, we're removing barriers and making pharmacy work better for you.' Amazon said in a press release on Tuesday that AARP reports that one in five adults in the U.S. are caring for an aging family member. The new caregiver feature enables aging patients the option of inviting a trusted individual to help manage their medication through their Amazon Pharmacy portal. 'Amazon Pharmacy's new caregiver feature provides a secure, streamlined way for trusted individuals to help manage prescriptions and place orders 24/7, when and where convenient for them—all through their own Amazon accounts,' said Tess Carey, senior pharmacist at Amazon Pharmacy. 'This ensures medications arrive on time, giving both caregivers and patients greater peace of mind.' The pre-sorted PillPack feature also aims to help caregivers save time by receiving organized pharmaceuticals, making it easier to keep prescription schedules accurate. The health care arm of the online retail giant also touted the expansion of its new same-day prescription delivery service for Prime members in a dozen cities across the U.S., including Los Angeles, New York, and Seattle. Amazon announced in October that it plans to launch the same-day delivery service in 20 cities in 2025. That includes Boston, Dallas, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and San Diego. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told shareholders in late May that more changes are coming for the company's pharmacy business. He noted Amazon Pharmacy's One Medical app enables users to access their medical information in one place, meet with medical practitioners, and set up subscriptions for chronic issues. 'We've built programs like RxPass, which, for $5 a month for Prime members, gives our Prime members unlimited access to 60 common medications with very fast delivery and 24/7 pharmacy support,' Jassy said. 'We are changing this customer experience that people have had to endure on the pharmacy side for a really long time. We''re changing it very significantly.' Sign in to access your portfolio

Instacart names Chris Rogers CEO to succeed Fidji Simo

You can find original article here Supermarketnews. Subscribe to our free daily Supermarketnews newsletter. Instacart announced Wednesday it promoted its chief business officer, Chris Rogers, to succeed Fidji Simo as chief executive officer, effective Aug. 15. Simo, who announced on May 8 she's leaving the last-mile delivery company to become CEO of OpenAI Applications, will remain chair of the board at Instacart. Rogers joined Instacart in 2019 and currently oversees retailer relationships and expansions, ad sales, research and development, partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, Instacart Business, and Instacart Health. "Over the last four years, we've transformed Instacart into a growing, profitable, leading technology platform that's helping reshape the grocery industry. We're building a generational company at the intersection of technology and food, and Chris is the right leader for our next chapter. He brings the kind of vision, operational excellence, and customer obsession that will help Instacart play an even bigger role in people's lives—and I couldn't be more excited to see how Chris scales the company's impact from here," Simo said in the press release. Simo assumed the CEO role in August 2021, following a 10-year stint at Facebook. She served as vice president and head of Facebook App for her last two-and-a-half years at the social media company. In that role she oversaw the company's various app features, including News Feed, Stories, Groups, Video, Marketplace, Gaming, News, Dating, Ads, and more. Rogers said in the press release that the San Francisco-based delivery company is 'transforming the future of grocery shopping, but more importantly, we're helping people solve real, everyday needs.' Rogers joined Instacart after nearly 11 years at Apple, where he served as managing director of Apple Canada. In that role, Rogers drove iPhone adoption in the market. He began his career at Procter and Gamble, where he oversaw relationships with Canadian grocers. He sits on board for data, analytics, and insights provider Spins, as well as the board of the Ad Council, a nonprofit organization that drives public service campaigns on social issues. Rogers said in a blog post Wednesday that Instacart's 'vision and strategy aren't changing.' 'And we'll invent the future of grocery with our partners by continuing to invest in cutting-edge enterprise tools and technologies, as well as enhance our leading advertising ecosystem—both of which empower retailers and brands to scale, grow and meet the evolving needs of their customers,' Rogers wrote. Instacart's most recent investment in new tech came with the acquisition of Fort Lauderdale-based ecommerce and technology company Wynshop in early May. The purchase builds on Instacart's flagship ecommerce platform, Storefront Pro. Simo said in her own letter to the Instacart team on Wednesday that Rogers was picked because of his deep understanding of the tech company's various partners, his operational experience, and his ability to mobilize teams. 'Chris knows this company. He helped shape it. And I know Chris will carry our mission forward with conviction, care, and ambition. I couldn't be more excited for him to step into the role of CEO and lead Instacart's next phase of growth,' she wrote. The abrupt announcement of Simo's departure earlier this month was premature, according to Simo, who said she went public with the change earlier than expected because of a leak about her departure to the press. Walmart+ shoppers drive two-thirds of grocery sales

You can find original article here Supermarketnews. Subscribe to our free daily Supermarketnews newsletter. U.S. online grocery sales experienced its ninth consecutive month of sales eclipsing $9.5 billion in April, climbing 15.2% to $9.8 billion, according to the monthly Brick Meets Click Grocery Shopper Survey, sponsored by Mercatus. The delivery and ship-to-home fulfillment methods rose 29% to $4.2 billion and 22.1% to $1.9 billion year over year, respectively, while pickup remained flat at $3.7 billion. The survey of 1,699 shoppers found that the mass merchandise category continued to expand its monthly active user base in April, growing household penetration by 50% year over year. And order frequency among those shoppers has also grown, according to the report. 'Historically, memberships and subscriptions were considered more effective at building loyalty with regular customers, however, today we see that these programs are also attracting shoppers from rivals as households search for more savings,' said David Bishop, partner at Brick Meets Click, in a press release. 'Regardless, Walmart+ has become a core component of its strategy as approximately two-thirds of the households ordering groceries online from Walmart during April 2025 were Walmart+ members.' Walmart+ members are also spending 40% more than their non-loyalty counterparts and are 10% more likely to express their intent to use the service again. 'Discounted memberships have put delivery in the spotlight, but lasting loyalty forms where speed, control, and value meet,' said Mercatus Chief Growth Marketing Officer Mark Fairhurst in the press release. 'Regional grocers who combine fast, free pickup with a compelling subscription program, data-driven rewards, and timely outreach to lapsed shoppers can turn trial orders into repeat business while protecting margins.'
