Zidan Discusses Counter Terrorism and Intelligence Sharing with French Delegation

Baghdad – INA President of the Supreme Judicial Council-SJC, Judge Faiq Zidan, met on Tuesday with a French delegation to discuss cooperation in counterterrorism and the exchange of intelligence. In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), SJC said that Judge Zidan received a French delegation specializing in combating terrorism, headed by Baptiste Lourtiermi, Director of Counterterrorism for the Middle East, along with a number of experts in the field. The two sides discussed several key issues related to counterterrorism, mutual cooperation in intelligence sharing, and joint efforts to eliminate terrorist groups.

Anbar criminal court sentences man to death for killing the director of Ramadi power station and his family

Baghdad - INA Anbar criminal court on Sunday issued four death sentences against the man convicted of killing the director of the Ramadi power station and his family, the Supreme Judicial Council-SJC said. In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), SJC said that Anbar Criminal Court sentenced the killer to death four times for murdering the director of the Ramadi power station and members of his family. His son, who participated in the crime, was also sentenced. The statement added that the two defendants killed the victim along with three of his family members, including his wife and children, in the district of Hit. The sentences were issued against the main perpetrator in accordance with Article 406/1/A/C of the Penal Code, with reference to the provisions of Articles 47, 48, and 49 regarding participation in a crime. The son was also sentenced under the same article, with consideration of Article 132/1 of the Penal Code.

SJC releases marriage and divorce statistics for February 2025

Baghdad – INA The Supreme Judicial Council-SJC released on Sunday, the official statistics on marriage and divorce rates in Iraq for February 2025. According to a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the number of registered marriage contracts during the past month reached 31,411, while divorce cases totaled 6,392. The statement further highlighted that Baghdad recorded the highest figures for both marriage and divorce cases. Al-Rusafa led in marriage registrations, exceeding 5,000 contracts, while Al-Karkh reported the highest number of divorce cases across all Iraqi provinces, surpassing Al-Rusafa, which ranked second. Basra recorded the third-highest divorce rate nationwide.
