Bengaluru doctor threatens to ‘crash plane' after refusing to stow bag, offloaded from Air India Express flight

A passenger — a 36-year-old female doctor and resident of Shivanahalli, near Yelahanka in Bengaluru — was offloaded by police due to her alleged misbehaviour with cabin crew members and for reportedly threatening to crash Air India Express flight earlier this week. The incident took place on flight IX2749, which was scheduled to take off from Surat International Airport to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) around 2:30 pm on Tuesday. The confrontation began when the female passenger, Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, left her baggage midway in the aisle while grabbing her seat at 20F. When the crew requested her to remove the bag and place it in the overhead compartment near her seat, she refused and instead demanded that the crew members move it for her, NDTV reported, citing sources. Despite multiple warnings from the crew and even an intervention by the pilot, Mohanbhai allegedly refused to cooperate and began behaving aggressively. She reportedly also yelled at fellow passengers who attempted to calm her down. The situation escalated when she allegedly threatened to "crash the flight." Following this, the pilot and cabin crew alerted security and CISF personnel, who promptly escorted her off the aircraft. The woman has been booked under sections 351 (4) (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) and 353 (1)(b) (statements of public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as section 3(1)(a) (act of violence against a person on board an aircraft in flight which is likely to endanger the safety of such aircraft) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, the Indian Express reported. In a separate incident on Tuesday, 22-year-old Sadaad Mohammad Baba from Srinagar allegedly tried to force his way through departure gate 8 at Terminal 1 of Bengaluru airport. When CISF personnel intervened to stop the unauthorized entry, Baba reportedly pushed one of the security staff members.

Bengaluru Doctor Threatens To 'Crash' Air India Express Plane Over Bag Space

A 36-year-old female doctor was taken into custody by Bengaluru Police after she allegedly misbehaved with cabin crew aboard an Air India Express flight and even threatened to crash the aircraft, earlier this week. The incident took place minutes before flight IX2749 was scheduled to take off for Surat International Airport from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), at around 2.30 pm, on Tuesday. According to sources, the female passenger, Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, left her baggage in the first row of the aircraft before occupying her seat at 20F. When the cabin crew objected to her bag's placement and asked her to keep it in the overhead compartment near her seat, she refused. She, instead, demanded that the crew move her bag to her seat, the sources said. Despite repeated requests by the crew and the pilot's intervention, Ms Mohanbhai refused to comply and allegedly began misbehaving. The sources said she also shouted at fellow passengers who tried to reason with her. The situation escalated when she allegedly threatened to "crash the flight". The pilot and the crew alerted the security and CISF personnel, who subsequently removed her from the aircraft. The woman's behaviour threatened the safety of the remaining passengers, the sources said. The doctor is a resident of Shivanahalli, near Yelahanka, in Bengaluru. According to The Times of India, Ms Mohanbhai also abused and manhandled police officers at KIA police station. Her husband reportedly told police that she has stopped practicing medicine.

Buildings posing height obstacles being identified in Surat

Surat: The exercise to identify height obstacles in the flight funnel of Surat International Airport is being repeated, in the wake of the Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Demolitions will be carried out after obstacles are identified, senior govt officials said. The buildings that may face demolition are part of six projects that were developed recently. As there is no legal battle underway regarding their height, local authorities will be able to act. Meanwhile, over 110 other buildings are allegedly in violation of height restrictions, but their case is in court and there is a stay on action against them. "We asked airport officials to identify height obstacles and the portions of buildings that need to be removed. According to the Airports Authority of India's findings, the obstructing parts of buildings will be removed," said an official in the collector's office. "Height obstacles of only those buildings will be removed for which there is no court order. For the other buildings, there is a stay order from the court and action will be taken only after a court order is received," the official added. The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is to facilitate the removal of these obstacles according to orders from the collector's office. Teams from the AAI, SMC and the collector's office are working together to identify buildings posing an obstacle. "The SMC will follow the collector's orders once AAI provides the height obstacle details. The SMC will carry out demolitions," said an SMC official. Sources in the district administration say the stay against removal of height obstacles is also going to be challenged. If the stay is vacated, action will be taken against all height obstacles. Further, the district collector, Saurabh Pardhi, has ordered the removal of shrimp farms on govt land around the Kankra rivulet. Shrimp farms are said to be the major cause of flooding of the rivulet and are said to attract birds. Several shrimp farms are located around the city airport, raising the risk of bird strikes.
