In India, Surdas Jayanti is celebrated with great fanfare. Know about the festival's date, history, significance, celebration and more. Surdas Jayanti 2025: Surdas Jayanti commemorates the legendary poet and musician Surdas's birth anniversary. The well-known saint was born blind. He was a passionate follower of Lord Krishna and performed many songs and poems in his honour. He became known as Bhakt Kavi Surdas (poet and devotee Surdas) for his heartfelt lyrics devoted to the god. The 16th-century Bhakti movement in India can be understood through his poem work Sur Sagar. Surdas Jayanti 2025: Date and Muhurat According to Drik Panchang, Surdas Jayanti will be observed on Friday, May 2, this year. It will mark his 547th birth anniversary. The Panchami Tithi will begin at 11:23 AM on May 1 and end at 9:14 AM on May 2. Surdas Jayanti 2025: Mantra Surdas Jayanti 2025: History and Significance Famous for his devotional compositions devoted to the worship of Lord Krishna, Saint Surdas was a great poet and musician. Born blind in the village of Sihi (some people think he was born in Runkata village), Surdas had to deal with neglect from his family from the moment of his birth. His mother's name was Jamunadas, and his father was Ramdas. Consequently, at the age of six, he abandoned his family and became deeply engrossed in the devotion of Lord Krishna. His love for Krishna was reflected in his songs, as he was a Vaishnava follower of the god. The poet became so well-known that he even became a patron of Akbar, the Mughal Emperor. The final years of his life were spent in the Braj area. Finally, historians think that Surdas wrote hundreds of his poems and collected them in a book called Sursagar. But currently, there are only roughly 8,000 of them. His works that praise Lord Krishna include Sur Saravali and Sahitya Lahari. The day is observed to honour the amazing poet and saint for his outstanding contribution to religious poetry. Surdas Jayanti 2025: Celebrations In the north of India, the day is widely observed. In observance of the great poet, all followers of Lord Krishna revere him, pray to him, and fast. In honour of the day, several groups host lectures and seminars to spread the saint's teachings. Many people celebrate the day by singing bhajans from his collection. Surdas Jayanti 2025: Puja Vidhi On the day of Surdas Jayanti, the following rituals are performed: Using gangajal, one can begin by cleansing and purifying the space set aside for worship. Set the statue or photo frame of Lord Krishna and Surdas on a sacred table. To create a spiritual atmosphere, light a lamp, a diya, or an incense stick to begin the puja. To express gratitude and respect, place fresh flowers and sacred leaves on the idol or photo. Sing a few of Surdas' well-known hymns to show your love and dedication. To symbolise enlightenment and prayer, perform an aarti while holding a lamp lit with ghee. Surdas Jayanti 2025: Quotes 'Sumiran kar le mere Man, main naam gun gaun re."
