Cornwall's Jubilee Pool marks 90th anniversary
Penzance's Jubilee Pool is celebrating its 90th Art Deco lido, which opened its gates in May 1935 as part of King George V's Silver Jubilee, said celebrations would include a historical exhibition, live music, meet the mermaids and a birthday Susan Stuart said the pool, which is Britain's largest seawater lido, had been at the "heart of Penzance's identity" for nine decades."The pool has weathered storms both literal and figurative – from wartime challenges to devastating winter damage – yet thanks to the community's unwavering support, it continues to thrive as a beloved swimming destination and architectural treasure," she said.
Nicola Murdoch, CEO, said the celebration honoured the lido's "rich heritage"."As we look toward our centenary, we remain committed to ensuring this extraordinary facility continues to serve generations to come," she to the event have been encouraged to wear 1930's inspired Murdoch said: "Dust off those vintage costumes, striped bathing suits, and glamorous poolside fashion – or come decked in your most colourful festival gear. "Let's make this a visual celebration as stunning as our Art Deco gem."Organisers said celebrations would take place between 11:00 and 21:30 BST.
