BJP govt harassing traders through GST department, says Cong on raids
Raipur: The Congress party condemned the alleged harassment of traders in Ambikapur and the entire Surguja division under the guise of GST operations and raids. Chhattisgarh Congress communication department head, Sushil Anand Shukla, said that the BJP govt is persecuting traders.
He highlighted that the govt conducted continuous GST raids on businesses for the past 18 months. He further criticised the govt's earlier decision to withdraw the e-way bill exemption. Shukla accused the Sai govt of treating ordinary traders, who are major contributors to the state's revenue collection, like "thieves and dacoits". He pointed out that while unemployment rose, incomes decreased, and the purchasing power of the common public declined under the BJP govt, an 18% historic increase in GST collection is proof that the govt is mercilessly collecting taxes from the common people.
Traders staged a protest and downed shutters on Sunday against the state GST raids at several business establishments in Ambikapur, the divisional headquarters of Surguja.
