The reconstruction work of the line to broad-gauge began in Feb 2020 at a cost of Rs 320 crore. The gauge conversion and electrification work has been completed recently. The stations in the stretch include Peralam, Ambagarattur, Pattakudi, Thirunallar, Karai-Kovilpatthu and Karaikal. The new connection is expected to improve rail services in the region, promote economic development, and meet the growing transportation demands of locals.
