Lollypop partnership helps long-term shelter pets find homes
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A new partnership between Lollypop Farm and the Bissell Pet Foundation could give pets in the shelter long-term, a renewed chance for adoption!
The Bissell Pet Foundation's New York Intrastate Transport Program and Long-Stay Pet Initiative aims to create a network of shelters statewide with pets who have been adoption eligible for 30 days or more. Shelters can create a profile for these pets on Bissell's portal, and other shelters can request an animal be transported to them for a higher chance of adoption.
'It gives the ones that have been overlooked for a long period of time more views in other rescues and other shelters,' said Lollypop Farm's Rescue Transport Coordinator Susie Lucey
Lucey also said the demand for a program like this is high right now, especially at Lollypop.
'We have sixteen pets eligible for this website currently and hopefully someone will have the perfect adoptees for these pets,' Lucey said.
Transportation costs for this program are settled by the sending and recipient shelters. Lucey also explained the adoption process still works similarly to the usual circumstances, in which the family of the adopted pet receives a small portion of the pet's food and any medication for a smooth homelife transition.
'Our biggest thing is to get these pets out of the shelter and get them into loving homes,' Lucey said.

There are a total of 19 shelters including Lollypop Farm and the Humane Society of Yates County participating in this program. Shelters were able to begin creating their Bissell pet profiles on Wednesday.
