Bukit Serdang's residents fears of flooding may be alleviated, thanks to a drainage upgrade along Jalan BS 3/1. Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Zone 21 councillor Suzanah Hanim Wong said the project in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, was initiated following complaints about flash floods and drainage issues, especially during heavy rain. 'This has been a long-standing matter, so this upgrade was essential,' she said. She added that the RM268,950 project, funded by the Housing and Local Government Ministry, was one of seven infrastructure improvements identified for Seri Kembangan. Covering a 160m stretch between Jalan BS 3/1 and Jalan BS 6/17, works began on Jan 2 and were completed on April 23. The project involved the installation of U-shaped concrete drains measuring 600mm x 600mm and the construction of new scupper drains to collect surface run-off. Suzanah said the project was a good example of effective cooperation between the state and Federal Government. 'Sometimes, the cost of resolving certain infrastructure issues goes beyond the city council's annual budget,' she added when met at the site. Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki, who was also present, said the project was part of a broader strategy to strengthen local infrastructure in response to the township's fast-paced development. 'Four housing projects are in the works near Jalan BS 3/1. 'We cannot afford to wait for floods to happen after these developments begin; we must be proactive,' she said. Wong said MBSJ and state representatives had assessed development pressure in three critical areas, namely Bukit Serdang sections 1 to 3, Section 9 and Section 10. Section 10 is also the original site of the Seri Kembangan night market. 'All three areas are experiencing rapid development. 'So we've asked MBSJ to prepare a complete infrastructure plan, not just for drainage but also for traffic and road systems,' she added. Site visits were also carried out at the three areas to gather feedback from stakeholders. 'This helped us understand their needs on the ground. 'Our goal is to ensure these areas are well prepared for the next wave of development,' said Wong.
