Suzanna Somers' widower has found love amid his grief.
Alan Hamel confirmed he has found love with Joanna Cassidy, Suzanne's Hollywood Wives costar, 20 months after the Three's Company actress died following her yearslong battle with cancer.
'I'm fortunate to have Joanna in my life,' Alan, 88, told Page Six in an interview published June 25. 'Most men would love to have a Joanna in their life. I do not know where this relationship is going, but what I do know is that being in the cocktail hour of my life, I am blessed with a magnificent family—thanks to incredible Suzanne —a privileged life, and our business that we created 50 years ago.'
But while his romance with Joanna is new, they actually go way back.
'I have known Joanna Cassidy for over 45 years,' he continued. 'Joanna was a guest star on [daytime talk show] The Alan Hamel Show in Canada in the 70s. She was a great guest and it was a dynamic show, and we liked each other, not romantically, but mainly with respect. Both of us were married at the time.'

Alan—who was married to Suzanne from 1977 until her death in October 2023—also credit his new relationship to son Stephen Hamel, whom he shares with first wife Marilyn Hamel.
'My son met Joanna at a screening and after a long conversation suggested to Joanna that she and me would get along and should meet,' Alan explained. "Stephen did not know we knew each other.'
As for starting a new relationship after spending over 40 decades with Suzanne, Alan emphasized the Step by Step actress wanted him to move on.
''Don't mope around,' he recalled of receiving his late wife's blessing. 'Live your life. We will see one another after you cross over.''
And Alan has continued to highlight his wife's legacy and the impact she had on their family—which includes her son Bruce Somers Jr., whom she shared with first husband Bruce Somers, and Alan and Marlyn's daughter Leslie Hamel—following her death in 2023.
"She was an amazing, amazing woman," he told Today in October 2024. "Aside from all of her accomplishments, she was an amazing wife and an amazing mother as well. She's the one who pulled our family together. I didn't do it. She did it, and she really knew what she was doing. So, I will miss her."
