Ex-pal of husband killer Molly Martens opens up about friendship
A former pal of evil killer Molly Martens - whom she describes as a 'pathological liar' - has said she is 'thankful' the 40 year-old is out of her life. American woman Suzie West Vincent - who featured on the Netflix documentary 'A Deadly American Marriage' about the killing of Limerick dad of two Jason Corbett - also said her 'heart breaks' for Jason's children Jack and Sarah over the trauma they went through following their dad's killing. The documentary, which began streaming on Netflix on Friday, May 9, has the co-operation of the Corbett family and includes interviews with Jason's orphaned children, Jack and Sarah, as well as his sister Tracey Corbett-Lynch and her husband, David Lynch and killers Molly and her dad Tom (73), a former FBI agent. Showing never-before-seen footage surrounding the circumstances of the killing of 39-year-old Jason in the bedroom of his home in North Carolina, USA, it's expected to be one of the most-watched for the streaming giant this year. Jason was killed in his home in North Carolina in 2015 with a concrete paving slab and a metal baseball bat. Molly and Tom were found guilty of second-degree murder in 2017 after facing trial before their convictions were overturned. Following a legal process both agreed to a deal with prosecutors and admitted voluntary manslaughter. Last June they were released from a North Carolina prison having served four years and three months. They continue to insist they acted in self-defence. Now, the former pal of evil Molly's has spoken about her past friendship with Molly. Suzie had 'loved' Molly but it broke her heart when she found out Molly lied to her so many times. Suzie, who is a filmmaker, said Sarah was her flower girl at her wedding years ago while Molly was one of her bridesmaids. She said Jason and Jack were also guests and they all flew in from Ireland. 'After years of avoiding interviews like the plague, trying to guard my sanity, keep focused/protect my little family from further grief caused by Molly and her family I finally decided I was open to contribute," said Suzie. 'As a woman filmmaker myself I really respected the women directing/producing it. I knew they would do a good job. They sat down with me for hours and I was so impressed with their approach on showing the duality of the story,' Suzie continued. 'I know that Molly fed me many lies over the years,' continued Suzie. 'My favourite has to be when her cat ate my birthday cake! 'My least favourite was when she had me believe she had a sister that died of cancer and the big one that had me almost toast to a big lie,' she said. 'A lot of stuff was not touched on about her past relationships and the lies, oddities they encountered with her,' Suzie continued. 'Her ex Keith she miscarried with even wrote a book about her and the trauma he suffered from her mental health issues. 'What I do know is 'A Deadly American Marriage' on Netflix is definitely a quality production. "A story I am thankful to have behind me along with certain pathological liars out of my life!"

Looking back on bees and how we got a buzz out of hives and honey
IN honour of World Bee Day, we're remembering the valuable insects and their influence on various aspects of our lives, from providing honey to inspiring pub names. Suzie and Luke Hutchinson were using their bees to produce bottle fermented sparkling mead (Image: Stuart Walker) The day is observed annually on May 20 to raise awareness about the important role bees and other pollinators play in maintaining food security, biodiversity and environmental sustainability. Some of Suzie and Luke Hutchinson's bees (Image: Stuart Walker) It celebrates Anton Janša, a pioneer of modern beekeeping from Slovenia, born on May 20, 1734. Maddie Ducie (back) and Ava Doughty dressed as bees at Kidsunlimited in Barrow (Image: Newsquest) Slovenia proposed the idea of World Bee Day, and in 2017, the United Nations General Assembly officially recognised it, with the first celebration taking place in 2018. Bee keeper Margaret Riches samples honey at The Haydock Centre, Penrith (Image: Newsquest) Bees are essential pollinators that help fertilise plants by transferring pollen, enabling fruit, vegetable, and seed production. They contribute to 35 per cent of global food production, helping grow crops like apples, almonds, coffee, and tomatoes. One of the Dalemain Marmalade Award winners was Miss Gladstone's Seville Orange and Lemon Marmalade with Honey (Image: Newsquest) Without bees, many of these crops would struggle to survive, leading to food shortages and economic losses. Bees also support biodiversity by pollinating wild plants, which serve as habitats and food sources for other species. Their role in maintaining ecosystems is crucial for the planet's health. Judge Ian Gregory examines honey at Gosforth Agricultural Show (Image: Newsquest) However, the insects face many threats. Urbanisation, deforestation, and industrial agriculture reduce natural foraging and nesting spaces for bees. Harmful pesticides, especially neonicotinoids, affect bees' nervous systems, reducing their ability to forage and reproduce. Rising temperatures, unpredictable seasons, and changing weather patterns disrupt bee activity and food availability. Football fans at The Beehive Inn on Warwick Road, Carlisle (Image: Newsquest) Varroa mites and other parasites weaken bees and spread deadly viruses, threatening their populations. One of the best ways to observe World Bee Day is by planting flowers that attract bees around your environment. For example, sunflowers, wildflowers, and lavender provide necessary food for bees throughout the year. Even a small flower pot on a balcony can make a difference in supporting these vital pollinators. Another considerable step would be to avoid harmful pesticides in protecting the population of bees and choosing organic gardening methods and natural pest control alternatives can help create a safer environment for bees to thrive.
