Civic bodies given 107 crore for road repairs ahead of rains
Gandhinagar: Gujarat govt on Sunday approved an allocation of Rs 107 crore to 149 municipalities for road repairs ahead of monsoon. An official statement said on Sunday that the allocation was made under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana. "Anticipating the potential damage that heavy rainfall could cause to roads in urban regions, the state govt made advanced planning for timely road resurfacing and repairs. The approved grant will help municipalities start repair works early and avoid disruptions during the rainy season," an official statement said. Grants to municipalities will range from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 1 crore, depending on which category they are in. As per the approved plan, 37 category 'A' municipalities will receive Rs 1 crore each, 34 category 'B' municipalities will receive Rs 80 lakh each, 61 category 'C' municipalities will get Rs 60 lakh each, and 17 category 'D' municipalities will be allotted Rs 40 lakh each. These funds, amounting to a total of Rs 107 crore, will be disbursed through the Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM), the statement said. The govt said that it will allocate additional funds for road repairs during the monsoon if municipalities make a request for funds. The statement said that earlier this month, the state govt allotted a grant of Rs 1,700.57 crore for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar municipal corporations, six newly formed municipal corporations, and five municipalities for various development projects. Of the total sanctioned amount, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will receive Rs 546 crore and Gandhinagar Rs 32 crore. Among the newly established municipal corporations, Anand will get Rs 148 crore, Morbi Rs 270.08 crore, Surendranagar Rs 257.60 crore, Nadiad Rs 71.91 crore, Vapi Rs 251.91 crore, and Navsari Rs 90.35 crore.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi's family joins Modi's roadshow in Gujarat's Vadodara
The family of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, one of the two women military officers who held briefings on India's cross-border strikes on terror infrastructure under Operation Sindoor, joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi's roadshow in Gujarat's Vadodara on Monday. Colonel Qureshi's parents, Taj Mohammad and Halima Qureshi, welcomed Modi as people lined the streets for the road show that started at Vadodara's Harni Airport and featured cultural performances. Over 50,000 people were expected to gather for another roadshow of Modi in Ahmedabad later on Monday, the first day of his two-day visit to Gujarat. Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation for development projects worth over ₹82,950 in Dahod, Bhuj, and Gandhinagar during his first visit to his home state after Operation Sindoor. Hoardings have been put across Ahmedabad, celebrating the armed forces' successes in the operation. Officials said Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for 33 development projects worth ₹53,414 crore in Bhuj, which was among the places Pakistan targeted with drones in retaliation for the cross-border strikes. These projects encompass the Kandla Port infrastructure, solar energy, power transmission, and road and building development. In Dahod's Kharod, Modi will launch railway, water supply, roads, buildings, urban development, and housing projects worth over ₹24,000 crore. He will inaugurate the Locomotive Manufacturing Shop built at a cost of ₹21,405 crore and the first 9000 HP locomotive engine. Modi will inaugurate railway works worth ₹2,287 crore, including the doubling of Anand–Godhra, Mehsana–Palanpur, and Rajkot–Hadmatiya railway lines, electrification of the 107 km Sabarmati–Botad line, and gauge conversion of the Kalol–Kadi–Katosan line. On Tuesday, Modi will inaugurate the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Gandhinagar and over 22,000 housing units constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at the cost of ₹1,006 crore. He will lay the foundation stones, including for a new 1800-bed inpatient with an outpatient department in Ahmedabad, including a 500-bed infectious disease unit. Modi will distribute cheques worth ₹2,731 crore to 17 municipal corporations and ₹569 crore to 149 municipalities under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana for infrastructure projects.

PM Modi to inaugurate, lay foundation stones for projects worth Rs 5,536 cr in Gandhinagar on May 27
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], May 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will present development projects worth crores to Gujarat during his two-day visit starting May 26. Ahmedabad city gets decked up in preparation for a road show upon PM's visit to Gujarat on 26 and 27 May. The road show in Ahmedabad will begin at 6:30 PM tomorrow and will be carried out from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport to Indira Bridge. DCP Traffic Ahmedabad (East Zone) said, 'The Prime Minister is visiting Ahmedabad tomorrow, for which the Ahmedabad Administration is organising a road show. More than 50,000 people will participate in it. The Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory requesting people to avoid the route from Duffnala to Airport Circle to Indira Bridge from 3 PM... For those who have a flight, if they face any problems on the road, they can show their tickets to the traffic officer to take the route...' On May 27, he will attend a special programme at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects valued at Rs 5,536 crore across various departments. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will also grace the event. PM Modi will inaugurate over 22,000 residential units built at a cost of Rs 1,006 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). He will also inaugurate the Biodiversity Park in Surat, created by transforming unused land along the Kankra-Khadi riverbank, at an estimated cost of Rs 145 crore. In total, urban development projects worth Rs 1,447 crore under the Urban Development Department will be inaugurated, spanning key initiatives in Jamnagar, Surat, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Junagadh. Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for urban projects valued at Rs 1,347 crore, including the Phase-3 development of the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, which is planned at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore. At the programme held at Mahatma Mandir, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth Rs 170 crore under the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department. He will also inaugurate and lay foundation stones for Water Resources Department projects exceeding Rs 1,860 crore, including the Tharad-Dhanera pipeline in Banaskantha at a cost of Rs 888 crore and the Deodar Lakhani pipeline at Rs 678 crore. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Gandhinagar, built at a cost of Rs 84 crore. He will also lay the foundation stone for a new IPD block with OPD services in Ahmedabad, featuring 1,800 beds--including a 500-bed facility dedicated to infectious diseases--at a cost of Rs 588 crore. Prime Minister will also distribute cheques totalling Rs 2,731 crore to 17 Municipal Corporations and Rs 569 crore to 149 Municipalities under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana. Gujarat government sanctions ₹2,204 crore for urban development projects
GANDHINAGAR : The state govt on Thursday sanctioned Rs 2,204 crore for various development projects in urban areas. These projects cover five municipal corporations, three newly formed corporations, three urban development authorities, and five municipalities. The fund allocations will be made under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana , an official statement said. The project will benefit three newly formed municipal corporations — Anand, Porbandar, and Mehsana — along with five major municipal corporations: Surat , Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, and Vadodara . Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA), Rajkot Urban Development Authority (RUDA), and Bhavnagar Urban Development Authority (BUDA) will also benefit from various urban development projects . The govt statement mentioned that the fund allocations were made based on demands from the municipal corporations, municipalities, and urban development authorities for projects tailored to local needs. The govt stated that the allocated funds will be used for the construction of new roads and widening existing roads, underground drainage, stormwater lines, gardens, libraries, recharge wells, city beautification, unique identity projects, and social infrastructure development in cities and towns. The state govt is observing 2025 as the urban development year.

Gujarat CM grants approval for development project worth Rs 2,204 crore under SJMMSVY
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], May 8 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has granted in-principle approval for development projects worth Rs 2,204.85 crore under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana (SJMMSVY). This initiative aims to realise the vision of 'Earning Well, Living Well' through the planned development of cities and urban areas as part of the Urban Development Year 2025. The Chief Minister has approved the allocation of this amount based on the proposals submitted by the concerned Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, and Urban Development Authorities, who sought funds for development works aligned with local needs and secured approval through their respective general meetings. In this year's Urban Development Department budget, the Chief Minister has allocated Rs 30,325 crore, reflecting a 40 per cent increase over the 2024-25 allocation. To develop citizen-centric cities, the CM has approved the fund allocation for various components of Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana for the planned development works as per the specific requirements of cities. Under the Mukhyamantri Shaheri Sadak Yojana, the Chief Minister has approved works worth a total of Rs 597.73 crore for the construction of roads in urban areas. Under these development works, approval has been granted for projects worth Rs 464.92 crore in Surat Municipal Corporation, involving 857 roads for activities including carpeting, re-carpeting, widening of existing roads, construction of new roads, and development of CC roads. In-principle approval has been granted to Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation for Rs 68 crore for 20 road-related works, including four-lane roads, RCC roads, and metal grouting, while Jamnagar Municipal Corporation has received in-principle approval of Rs 43.81 crore for 18 works related to CC roads. The Chief Minister has also allocated Rs 21 crore to the newly formed Mehsana Municipal Corporation for the construction of new roads, underpasses, approach roads, etc. Under SJMMSVY, CM has approved a total allocation of Rs 1,249.38 crore for works such as underground drainage, stormwater lines, gardens, libraries, recharge wells, city beautification, unique identity projects, and social infrastructure development in cities and metros. In-principle approval has been granted for the newly formed Municipal Corporations, Rs 200.35 crore for Porbandar, Rs 4 crore for Anand, and Rs 256 crore for Mehsana, along with Rs 451 crore for Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation, Rs 317 crore for Jamnagar, and Rs 171 crore for Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. The Chief Minister has given in-principle approval for works worth a total of Rs 170.08 crore for road works, underground drainage, box drains, and bitumen roads for outgrowth area development. From these works, approvals have been given for Rs 71 crore to Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation, Rs 66.91 crore to Jamnagar Municipal Corporation, Rs 22.50 crore to Mehsana Municipal Corporation, Rs 7.99 crore to Godhra Municipality, and Rs 1.68 crore to Gandevi. CM has approved works worth Rs 20.19 crore for three Urban Area Development Authorities for canal-side protection walls, DP road construction, library buildings, etc. The Chief Minister has approved works worth Rs 11.62 crore for Surat Urban Development Authority, Rs 1.40 crore for Bhavnagar Urban Development Authority, and Rs 7.17 crore for Rajkot Urban Development Authority. Under the component of private society public participation of SJMMSVY, the Chief Minister has approved fund allocations of Rs 2.49 crore to Vadodara Municipal Corporation for paver block and sewer connection works, Rs 2.29 crore to Kadi Municipality, Rs 0.83 crore to Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, Rs 3.37 crore to Anand Municipal Corporation, and Rs 0.24 crore to Palanpur Municipality. In addition, the Chief Minister has approved Rs 7.91 crore for Ankleshwar Municipality for unique identity projects like a sports complex and a senior citizen garden. During his tenure as Gujarat's then Chief Minister in 2005, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set the direction for planned, holistic development in the state's cities and metros by declaring the Urban Development Year. Reinforcing the vision of holistic development, the Chief Minister has allocated these funds with a firm resolve to designate 2025 as the Urban Development Year and to transform Gujarat's cities into smart, sustainable, and world-class urban centres.
