Jessica Simpson, 44, reveals surprising heartbreak from her twenties

has revealed a heartbreak from her twenties when she was dropped by her record label in 2008. She didn't understand why she was dropped after her hit country album Do You Know came out and it led her to take a break from music, she revealed during an interview with Fancy Hagood for an upcoming episode of Trailblazers Radio. 'I took a long break,' Simpson, 44, told Hargood via People. 'I was mad at music a bit. After being dropped with a number one country album, I was dropped and I just never understood it. 'They just said I would never recoup if I didn't give them part of the brand, but my brand was already successful.' Do You Know debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums and hit No. 4 Total Album Sales, but her record label decided to drop her anyway. Simpson's first album, 1999's Sweet Kisses was the first of seven albums she recorded by 2010 and then she stopped making music for 15 years. Jessica also said that she was warned not to pursue a career in music. 'They told me not to do it. They thought it would ruin my career just like they thought reality TV would ruin my career, and it didn't.' But Simpson just wanted to be relatable to her fans. 'That's so important I believe as a musician, I'm not going to be the one up there that [is] like, "Oh my God, I want to be just like Jessica." 'I want people to say, "Oh my God. I'm just like Jessica." That just works for me. That thought process,' she said. The I Belong To Me singer also told Hagood that she had to get her mindset in the right place to return to the music industry. 'I feel like there's so many façades that we put up, so many different things,' she explained. 'This time, I know I have three kids and I want to be a good role model to them, but they know me just the way this music is, which is so nice. 'Because my kids have thought that I've been putting out music this whole time because I've had writing sessions at my house and I wanted to put music out a long time ago,' Jessica explained. 'I've always wanted to put music out. It just never felt like the right time. And I'm an intuition gut follower.' Jessica made her long awaited return to music in March with her EP Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1. 'This is where I discover myself,' Simpson said about Nashville. 'This is where I'm born free… I did a gospel record at 14 here.' She continued: 'I got to write my first songs here. I wrote my whole country record here, and I was always so safe.' She chose to record in Nashville after her eldest daughter, Maxwell, 13, wanted to celebrate her birthday in the city. 'Instead of singing Happy Birthday, she wanted us to sing I Saw the Light and play Hank Williams that morning we were in Nashville because that's where she wanted to go… And she'd never been. 'And I woke her up with that song and it just hit me. The light. It was like the light's here,' she said. Last month, Simpson reflected on the earlier days of her music career, during which she was pitted against other up-and-coming artists. In her latest interview with Rolling Stone, the Texas native — whose fans think she's plotting a revenge TV show — named the two other blonde music artists she struggled to catch up with. Looking back on her rise to stardom, she told the magazine, 'I was never gonna win because I had someone like Britney [Spears] and Christina [Aguilera] ahead of me, who were selling so many more records.' Describing her relationship with her record label at the time, she noted, 'I didn't want to dance, I didn't want to wear a head mic. 'But I agreed to do it, because I worked for Sony, and I didn't want to let them down, and I felt like I was constantly letting people down. Even myself probably, because I wasn't singing words I wrote.' It wasn't until she began writing her own music that she was finally able to achieve her first chart-topping single.

Jessica Simpson celebrates emotional milestone after suffering ‘deepest heartbreak of my life'

Jessica Simpson said an emotional 'thank you' to the audience for her first performance in 15 years, as she celebrated 'coming back home to the best part of myself'. The singer, actor and designer – who sold two million copies of her debut album, Sweet Kisses, when she was 19 – has not performed live since 2010, the year she released her most recent album, the holiday collection Happy Christmas. However, Simpson, 44, seemed thrilled as she delivered a lively set on Wednesday 12 March at the Recording Academy's Austin Chapter Block Party during SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. She debuted four new songs, including 'Use My Heart Against Me' and 'Leave', possibly inspired by her separation from husband Eric Johnson, with whom she shares three children, in January. She also sang covers of 'Son of a Preacher Man' and 'These Boots are Made for Walking', Rolling Stone reported, the latter of which featured in the soundtrack to her 2005 film The Dukes of Hazzard. Later, she observed the significance of the moment in a message to her followers on social media. 'Last night was my first performance in 15 years,' she wrote in an Instagram post, along with several clips of her performance. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jessica Simpson (@jessicasimpson) 'It was an emotional coming back home to the best part of myself. Thank you for embracing me. You know that I have so much to say, but this lucky voice gets to soar again tonight. I love y'all. More to come…' Simpson kicked off her music comeback last week with the official release of 'Leave' from her forthcoming EP, Nashville Canyon: Part 1, followed by 'Use My Heart Against Me'. 'Leave' describes a relationship that has grown cold after an apparent betrayal: 'What we had was magic/ Now you've made it tragic/ Giving her what you gave to me/ Now the well that you drank from is empty.' In a YouTube video about the making of the song, Simpson said it was one of the most difficult songs for her to write but she 'needed to get it out'. In an interview with The Cut last month, Simpson told her sister Ashlee Simpson that she had been through 'the deepest heartbreak of [her] life'. The 44-year-old actor confirmed that she and the former NFL player have broken up in a statement shared on Monday 13 January, explaining that amid the challenges of their separation, she and her ex are focused on their children: Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, five. 'Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,' she told People. 'Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.' Simpson sparked speculation in November that she was getting divorced with a cryptic post on social media, as she wrote: 'Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic. 'This comeback is personal, it's an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.' Nashville Canyon: Part 1 is scheduled for release on 21 March.

Jessica Simpson announces 1st new single in years. What we know about her long-awaited music comeback.

Jessica Simpson is forging a new path forward in the wake of her split with husband Eric Johnson — and it involves music. After teasing a musical comeback for years now, Simpson announced the name of the song, 'Use My Heart Against Me,' and a release date in an Instagram video on Feb. 12. She shared a snippet of herself singing the song, which includes the lines 'Go on, use my heart against me' and 'Don't miss you / Don't confuse my love.' She wrote that it has 'soul vibes.' It comes out Feb. 21. Simpson also shared behind-the-scenes commentary about the apparent breakup anthem from people involved with the project. One promised 'a different side of Jessica,' another said she's ready to 'take control of their own artistry,' and a third said 'she's ready to — and can do — whatever she wants to do.' It was noted that an album is forthcoming, but no timing was given on the full release. Many people today associate Simpson with her eponymous fashion brand, which includes clothing, shoes and housewares. In 2021, she regained complete ownership of the billion-dollar line and runs it along with her mother, Tina. However, the Texas native burst onto the scene as a singer. The daughter of a minister, she first recorded Christian music, but at age 17 she was signed with Columbia Records for a pop album. Sweet Kisses was released in 1999, and Simpson came up alongside Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, with the industry pitfalls and vitriol that went along with it. Her rise in music coincided with the boom of reality TV, and Simpson became a huge breakout reality TV star. Thinking a reality show would help her record sales, Simpson allowed cameras to document her short-lived marriage to fellow singer Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees, and she catapulted to stardom. Her third album, In This Skin, which came out in 2003, the same year as Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, hit No. 2 on the music charts and sold a whopping 7 million copies. Among the many opportunities dangled in front of Simpson at that point waS acting, and she starred in 2005's The Dukes of Hazzard and released her popular "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'' cover on the soundtrack. The same year, the Jessica Simpson Collection was born and it thrived. Simpson continued recording music, but it never hit the way In This Skin did. The bestselling album was 2006's A Public Affair, which sold a million copies. A country music crossover album, Do You Know, sold 173,000 copies, and a 2010 Christmas cover album sold just 28,000. The last single Simpson released was a cover of Nothing But Thieves' "Particles" in 2021. It wasn't part of an album. In Simpson's bestselling 2020 memoir, Open Book, she wrote that she 'kept putting the music off' as she 'focused on the kids and the Collection' in the 2010s. By then, she had married Johnson, an ex-NFL player, and they welcomed Maxwell in 2012, Ace in 2013 and Birdie in 2019. 'When I found the love of my life in 2010 and started my family, I could just be me,' she wrote. 'I took myself out of the music industry to be normal and be the kind of mom I wanted to be.' In the book, Simpson also wrote about masking anxiety, pain and trauma through alcohol and pills before getting sober in 2017. She began 'writing and recording music in my home studio — raw and from the heart' and it 'was music I was really proud of,' she wrote in the memoir. During her book tour, she talked about being ready to release new music — singing 'Amazing Grace' a capella during an interview on the Today show. While she said 'music is part of [my] journey again,' and we've seen many, many, many Instagram photos of her in the studio, the 'Particles' cover was the only release. Her fans have constantly asked on all her social media uploads when the music would be out. Perhaps she just needed the right inspiration. As her 10-year marriage to Johnson unraveled, which she called a 'painful situation,' it has apparently been the nudge she needed. What she's shown of 'Use My Heart Against Me' sees a woman finding her voice again. On Feb. 5, she shared photos from the studio ahead of her new single announcement and wrote, "Music bursts through my soul and makes me smile…" Perhaps we'll even get a sister act. Last year Simpson's sister, Ashlee, hit the stage after an even longer break from music making. Simpson commented on her sibling's post, 'Let's tour together and take the kids!' But first things first … let's get that single out.
