Sweetwater community continues to rally together with cleanup day after EF-0 tornado
SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WATE) — Just over a week ago, an EF-0 tornado that swept through Sweetwater within the blink of an eye. On Saturday, a 'Community Cleanup Day' brought together dozens of volunteers working to help a visible difference in the recovery effort. On Holt Road, major cleanup efforts are finally underway. Craig and Callie Brackett, who own a large piece of property that was damaged, are also active members of the Loudon County Fire Rescue Squad. So, when the call for help came, their fellow first responders showed up in full force. Five injured after EF-0 tornado in Loudon County 'They're very helpful to the department, they're very helpful to the community. They're just great people, and when we saw that this is one of our own, then we needed to rally together and come out and help,' said Michael Hodge the Assistant Chief for Loudon County Fire Rescue. And it wasn't just the rescue squad that showed up, family, friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers came out to help with the cleanup. From cutting down trees to picking up insulation and other debris everyone shared a common goal – to help residents return to normal life. 'Well, it's always encouraging to see family and friends and just maybe people who aren't friends that just wanted to come out to volunteer. Thankful to have all this help out here today and glad I could be here to do it. Good health is a blessing of God, and there's a lot of people working really hard this morning,' said volunteer Brett Ward who is also a family friend of Craig and Callie. Sweetwater residents supporting each other after tornado in Loudon County While there still more work to be done in the coming weeks, even months, volunteers say they are ready to step up again whenever they are needed. 'It did do a lot more damage than most people know. There's a good community outpouring here. The volunteer state…. I mean, that's what we're known for volunteering, and you can see it out here, just when people need somebody they come in and help and Craig and Callie Brackett are the prime example of that.' added Hodge. This is just the beginning of a long cleanup journey for the residents on Holt Road. Brackett projects it to take many months but shares he is grateful for the help from the community. IREN (NasdaqGS:IREN) Surges 48% in One Month After Strong Q3 Earnings
IREN recently reported strong third-quarter financial results, with a marked increase in sales and net income compared to the previous year, which stands out as a potential influence on the company's impressive 48% share price rise over the past month. While this growth in earnings is notable, the overall market environment also played a role, with a 1.8% market rise over the last seven days and a 13% increase over the past 12 months. Although IREN's nine-month results reveal ongoing challenges, recent positive earnings may have bolstered investor confidence, adding weight to the broader market's upward trend. We've spotted 3 weaknesses for IREN you should be aware of, and 2 of them are a bit concerning. The end of cancer? These 23 emerging AI stocks are developing tech that will allow early identification of life changing diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's. The recent strong quarterly earnings announcement for IREN (NasdaqGS:IREN) underscores the company's efforts to reshape its business strategy amid changing market conditions. The shift from primarily focusing on volatile cryptocurrency mining to expanding AI and cloud infrastructure could potentially stabilize earnings and boost margins over the long term. This business transformation is echoed in the robust total shareholder return of 102.28% over the past three years, showcasing a significant appreciation in shareholder value. Despite this impressive growth, IREN's shares have underperformed the US Software industry, which saw a 22.6% increase over the last year, highlighting the challenges inherent in its core operations. As IREN pivots towards new growth catalysts like the Childress and Sweetwater projects, the potential for revenue growth remains strong, driven by global demand for digital infrastructure. Analysts forecast a revenue growth of 52.0% annually over the next three years, suggesting promising prospects for near-future profitability transformation. It is essential to consider the recent share price increase in relation to the consensus analyst price target of US$18.52, which exceeds the current price of US$8.89 by 52.0%. This differential indicates a substantial potential for upward revaluation if IREN achieves forecasted growth targets. However, the company's reliance on crypto mining and its ambitious expansion introduce unavoidable risks that could impact these valuations. As always, investors should weigh both the opportunities and uncertainties when considering the company's future trajectory. Our comprehensive valuation report raises the possibility that IREN is priced lower than what may be justified by its financials. This article by Simply Wall St is general in nature. Power cut again at Li'l Abner mobile home park, residents protest in Sweetwater
Residents of the Li'l Abner mobile home park in Sweetwater staged a protest Friday night after power was cut to the community for the second time since demolition on some of the mobile homes began. Among those affected was Santos Varela, a terminally ill man with pancreatic cancer. Speaking in Spanish, he said the outage made his condition worse. "I'm worried because I don't wanna end up in the hospital again. I'm tired of going to the hospital," he said. He added, "What I have, there's no hope. They tell me they can't do anything else for me." Mom says she struggles to feed her children Samantha Morales, a resident with four children, told CBS News Miami the power had been out for eight hours. "It's really hard. I can't open the fridge to make them nothing to eat. Give them nothing to eat. My baby needs milk. I can't," she said. Morales also expressed concern about safety, saying her children must now navigate heavy machinery and debris left from ongoing demolition. "My number one concern is their health. I have a son who is asthmatic and has a lot of allergies. He has a lot of illnesses. And due to this, his stuff is flaring more," Morales said. Residents held signs Friday night calling for the cleanup of debris from demolished homes. Some, like Morales, fear losing their homes next. "Sometimes we don't know if maybe we won't come back to a home. Maybe they'll knock ours down," she said. Some residents remain without power. CBS News Miami reported reaching out to Florida Power & Light on Friday night but had not received a response.
