Raja of Perlis: Passion for knowledge a foundation of human development
KANGAR: A culture of passion for knowledge is the foundation of human self-development, and all Malaysians, especially the people of Perlis, are urged to constantly seek knowledge to improve themselves in various aspects. Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail said passion for knowledge begins with the act of reading. "In line with this, I call on each of us, especially the people of Perlis, to continue to cultivate the habit of reading in our daily lives so that we may become knowledgeable individuals. "A society that reads and cherishes knowledge will produce individuals who are educated, possess noble character, are faithful to their religion, and are highly skilled," he said. Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin decreed this when opening the Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Repository Centre at the Kuala Perlis Public Library branch here. Also in attendance at the ceremony were the Raja Perempuan of Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Tengku Rashid. Present were National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang and Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli. Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said the development of the repository centre was highly appropriate to ensure the preservation of the nation's intellectual heritage in a secure and pristine condition for the reference of both current and future generations. "This initiative will benefit not only the people of Perlis but also residents of other northern states in continuing to seek knowledge through reading. "I have also been informed that the National Unity Ministry, through the National Library of Malaysia. conducted the Malaysian Reading Profile Survey for the year 2022/2023. "The survey showed an increase in the average number of reading materials read per year to 24 books, compared to only 15 in 2014. Congratulations are due on this achievement. "I believe that the National Library has designed various programmes based on the findings of this study to strengthen reading habits among Malaysians and to ensure that the culture of loving knowledge continues to flourish among the people." "I would like to remind everyone that the first commandment revealed by Allah SWT to our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW was 'Iqra', which means 'read'. Let reading become an integral part of our daily lives," he added. Earlier, the royal couple spent time touring the centre, developed by the National Library. The repository centre spans nearly 632 sq m and was built at a cost of over RM2.5 million. It was completed on April 15 last year. The centre will function as a strategic hub for the storage and management of national-level library materials in the northern zone, covering the states of Perlis, Kedah, Penang and northern Perak. Through access to materials under the Deposit of Library Materials Act 1986, local and regional communities will benefit from a rich and diverse reference collection that can be used for learning, research, and the advancement of knowledge.

Istana Arau Grounds Open To Public On May 23-24 For 'Malam Kilauan Cahaya'
KANGAR, May 21 (Bernama) --The Istana Arau grounds will be open to the public this Friday and Saturday (May 23-24) for the 'Malam Kilauan Cahaya Istana Arau' #MKC2025, held in conjunction with the 82nd birthday celebration of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail. According to the Office of Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin has consented to open the palace grounds for the event, which will take place from 9 pm to 11 pm on both nights. Visitors are reminded to dress modestly and appropriately when attending the event.

Raja of Perlis confers state awards, medals on 25 recipients to commemorate birthday
ARAU, May 17 — The Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, today conferred state awards and medals on 25 recipients in conjunction with the ruler's 82nd birthday celebration, in an investiture ceremony held at Istana Arau. Also gracing the ceremony were the Raja Perempuan of Perlis Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid; Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil. The Perlis government, in a statement, said the number of 25 recipients has been symbolically chosen to mark the Silver Jubilee celebration, commemorating 25 years of Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin's reign as the Ruler of Perlis, which will be observed from April 17 this year until April 16, 2026. Leading the list of recipients was ARKA Holding chairman Engku Maharaja Lela Setia Paduka Datuk Syed Budriz Putra Jamalullail Datuk Seri Diraja Syed Amir Abidin Jamalullail, who was conferred the Darjah Dato' Setia Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail (D.S.S.J.), which carries the title of Datuk Paduka. Meanwhile, Kangar High Court Judge Dr Arik Sanusi Yeop Johari was conferred the Darjah Dato' Paduka Mahkota Perlis (D.P.M.P.), which carries the Datuk title. Three recipients received the Darjah Dato' Setia Paduka Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail (D.S.P.J.), which carries the Datuk title. They are the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) chief executive Mohamad Haris Kader Sultan; former Royal Ranger Regiment chairman Major General Datuk Abdul Rahman A Wahab; and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Zaliman Sauli. Former Royal Military Police Corps chairman Major General Abd Wahab Geoh; National Centre for Defence Studies (PUSPAHANAS) director-general (Management and Training) Major General Mohd Azmurin Mat Khalib; and Kedah Federal Development Office director Zepri Saad, were conferred the Darjah Dato' Panglima Sirajuddin Jamalullail (D.P.S.J), which carries the title of Datuk. Meanwhile, the Darjah Setia Mahkota Perlis (S.M.P.) was awarded to six recipients, including Perlis State Legislative Assembly Speaker Rus'sele Eizan; Perlis Education director Rose Aza Che Arifin; UniMAP deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof Dr Mohd Mustafa Albakri Abdullah and head of the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) Department of the Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital, Brigadier General Dr Loh Sheau Torng. Nine individuals received the Darjah Seri Sirajuddin Perlis (S.S.P.), including Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Raja of Perlis, Colonel Hairil Razman Mohamad; National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) chief executive officer Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid; Perlis Immigration director Khairul Amin Talib; National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) director (Prevention Division) Zainudin Abdullah and Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor. Two recipients were awarded the Darjah Ahli Mahkota Perlis (A.M.P.), namely the secretary of the Human Resources Management Division, Perlis State Secretary's Office, Azmi Abdul Latip and the senior private secretary to the Raja of Perlis, Shaiful Amri Ahmad Safian. — Bernama

Perlis must balance progress with heritage, says Raja Syed Sirajuddin at Silver Jubilee event
PADANG BESAR, April 25 — The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, has urged all parties to uphold the principles of justice, administrative integrity and environmental sustainability in every policy and action. In this regard, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said the people of the state must continue to uphold noble values, empower the family institution, deepen their knowledge and safeguard the harmony they had built together. 'This small state holds great potential if it continues to be led with sincerity and a clear Perlis be known not only as a peaceful state, but also as one that wisely balances progress with heritage, modernity with values, and development with prosperity,' he said when officiating the landmark for his Silver Jubilee celebration here last night. Also gracing the event was the Raja Perempuan of Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid. The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, were also in attendance. The Silver Jubilee celebration to commemorate the Raja of Perlis' 25-year reign began on 17 April with a Royal Banquet and will continue until 16 April 2026, with a range of exciting events including the landmark opening. Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin expressed his gratitude, noting that over the course of his 25 years on the throne, Perlis had continued to thrive despite numerous challenges, with steady progress in economic growth, infrastructure, education, and the strong unity of its people. Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said that the landmark, standing majestically at the Padang Besar roundabout, was not merely a physical structure but a symbol of the integrity, unity, and the people's love for the state.
