Flynas to Begin Direct Flights to Damascus on June 5
Flynas, the Saudi low-cost carrier, will launch its first direct flight between Riyadh and Damascus next week from June 5, according to Al-Arabiya. The resumption of flights comes amid a broader regional reopening of Syrian airspace. 'Officially…flynas announces the launch of its first direct flight between Riyadh and the Syrian capital, Damascus, starting June 5th next week,' the company said on X. The carrier previously operated direct flights from Riyadh and Jeddah to Damascus, Aleppo, and Latakia. However, the Syrian civil war caused the suspension of flights to Syria during Al-Assad's era. After the fall of Al-Assad's rule in December 2024, Syria has unfolded a new chapter to rebuild its future and expand diplomatic ties. In April, Syrian Airlines formally unveiled the resumption of direct flights between Syria and the United Arab Emirates, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA). A statement on the airline's official Facebook page noted that the initial phase will involve exceptional flights to Dubai and Sharjah. The airlines will operate four weekly flights between Damascus and Dubai on Saturdays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In addition, the statement revealed other plans to operate daily flights soon. As for Sharjah, flights will run on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays, with ongoing efforts to turn them into daily flights. On Tuesdays and Fridays, flights will run between Damascus and Abu Dhabi. Currently, Syrian Airlines is intensifying its efforts to expand its network as quickly as possible. Syria to Resume Flights & Reopen Embassy in Libya
Syria is preparing to restore its diplomatic and aviation presence in Libya as part of a broader effort to revive ties between the two nations after more than a decade of strained relations. A government delegation is expected to visit Tripoli soon, with direct flights and embassy services to follow. Sameh Arabi, Director of Syrian Airlines, confirmed that Libya will soon be added as a new destination for the state-run airline. In a statement to Syria's official news agency SANA, Arabi noted that the carrier currently operates four daily flights serving Gulf and Middle Eastern cities, including Sharjah, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Doha, and Kuwait. He added that efforts are underway to resume routes to Egypt, although some administrative hurdles remain. The revival of the Libya route aligns with Syria's renewed diplomatic outreach. On May 15, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani announced the reopening of the Syrian embassy and consulate in Libya, saying it was based on instructions from Syria's newly appointed President, Ahmad Al-Shara. 'This step aims to provide services to our Syrian community in Libya and to strengthen fraternal relations between the two nations,' Al-Shibani wrote on X (formerly Twitter). He added that a field team will be dispatched in preparation for an official visit to Libya's Government of National Unity, although no specific date was given. The developments come amid a broader political realignment in Syria. In January 2025, Ahmad Al-Shara was appointed transitional president following the ousting of Bashar Al-Assad in December 2024. His administration has since emphasized reengagement with regional partners, including Libya. During the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in April, Libyan interim Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbaiba and Syrian President Al-Shara agreed to reactivate the Libyan–Syrian High Joint Committee. The body, designed to enhance bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and social spheres, had been dormant for years. Tags: HajjlibyaMakkahPilgrimageSaudi Arabia

First SyrianAir flight lands in Dubai, marking return of regular services
A Syrian Airlines (SyrianAir) aircraft landed today at Dubai International Airport from Damascus International Airport, marking the resumption of direct flights between Syria and the United Arab Emirates. This step comes as part of an exceptional first phase announced by the airline in an official statement, aimed at restoring regular air connectivity between Syria and the UAE. SyrianAir stated that this inaugural flight will be followed by a weekly schedule, with plans to gradually increase the number of flights over the coming period. According to the airline, four weekly flights will operate from Damascus to Dubai on Saturdays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The frequency is expected to rise to daily flights soon, given the high demand for the route. Flights from Damascus to Sharjah will operate on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, with plans to increase these to daily operations as well. Meanwhile, the Damascus–Abu Dhabi route will run twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Samih Arabi, Director-General of SyrianAir, told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the resumption of direct flights to the UAE reflects the airline's commitment to reconnect Syria with regional and international travel markets, particularly countries with large Syrian expatriate communities, such as the UAE. He noted that this move is part of a broader operational plan to restore civil aviation activity and expand the airline's network. Arabi, who accompanied the inaugural flight to Dubai, stated that SyrianAir is working to gradually increase flight frequencies, citing continued growth in demand for travel to and from the UAE. He encouraged travellers to stay informed through official announcements and to contact the airline's offices in Syria and abroad for full details and updates. He also highlighted the significance of this step on both economic and social levels, noting that direct flights facilitate the movement of people and help reconnect Syrian families residing in the UAE with their loved ones back home. SyrianAir confirmed that it is intensifying efforts to resume operations to additional Arab and regional destinations in the near future, as part of its strategy to restore the airline's prominent position on the regional air transport map.
