PennDOT announces roadway surveying across Central Pennsylvania through August
CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that it will activate its Systematic Technique to Analyze and Manage Pennsylvania's Pavements (STAMPP) across Central Pennsylvania.
The STAMPP crews will be active in Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin and Potter counties starting Tuesday, May 13. The crews are two-person teams consisting of a driver and an evaluator that travel a roadway's shoulder while completing surveys of distress on the road's shoulder, guide rail and drainage systems.
'While the data collected by these teams is critical for planning the maintenance of our roadway network, the safety of our employees and the traveling public has and always will be our top priority,' PennDOT Assistant District Executive Eric Murnyack said. 'If you encounter one of these teams along the highway, please slow down, obey the posted speed limit, and keep your hands on the wheel.'
PennDOT added that drivers should remain alert for STAMPP crews and their vehicles through the end of August.
PennDOT encourages motorists to 'Know Before They Go' by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting downloading the 511 Android or iPhone app, or by calling 5-1-1.
511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
