Special court sentences nine persons for smuggling ganja
The First Additional Special Court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Cases in Madurai sentenced six persons to 12-year rigorous imprisonment and three persons to 10-year rigorous imprisonment for smuggling 32 kg of ganja in Dindigul district in 2022.
Special Court Judge A.S. Hariharakumar has sentenced T. Vairavan, M. Muthukaruppan, T. Sundrapandi, V. Naveena, K. Arjunan and S. Jalabaga Logeshwara Prasad to 12-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each. The court sentenced S. Sheik Fareath, A. Dhivya and S. Sheik Mohamed Rafeek to 10-year rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each. It acquitted 10 others and one accused died during the pendency of the case.
In 2022, the Thadikombu police during a vehicle check near Thadikombu EB Colony seized ganja from three two wheelers and one multi utility vehicle. The police team seized a total of 36.20 kg of ganja from the vehicles.
