RPF finds narcotics substances worth ₹2.16 lakh on train
The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Mysuru Division, has recovered narcotic substances worth ₹2.16 lakh onboard Train No. 18111 TATA-YPR Express train between Birur and Kadur railway stations in Chikkamagaluru district on Saturday.
A statement here on Sunday said an RPF team carried out a surprise inspection as part of a special drive under the Operation NARCOS.
During the inspection, the team discovered an unclaimed bag in the GS coach No. SWR 247321. Upon checking the bag on suspicion, the team found narcotic substances that included 25 grams of MDMA (a synthetic drug) valued at approximately ₹1,25,000, 1.522 kg of ganja worth ₹90,000, and 37 bhang chocolates (weighing around 210 grams) valued at ₹1,850. The total estimated value of the recovered contraband is ₹2,16,850.
The team secured the bag at Kadur station around 1.55 p.m., and the seized materials were handed over to the Excise Department, the statement said.
The team comprised assistant sub-inspectors Ananda B. and C. Venkatesha, head constable Shivananda T., under the supervision of Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Mysuru, Sam Prashanth J.R.
The RPF is committed to ensuring passenger safety and maintainence of vigilance against illegal activities such as narcotics trafficking on trains and railway premises, a statement said.
