Large majority of Alberta teachers vote in favour of striking

While negotiations between the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) and the province remain in limbo, teachers are gearing up to take to the picket line. On Tuesday, strike vote results were released by the ATA showing that 94.5 per cent of teachers are in favour of striking. Nearly 39,000 teachers took to the virtual polls from June 5 to 8. Only 1,522 voted against going toward a strike. Teachers have 120 days to take action unless a resolution is made between the provincial government's Teachers' Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) and the ATA. Provincial Executive Council will meet on Thursday and Friday to determine next steps 'given the new enhanced mandate' teachers have provided, says the ATA website. The ATA has two meetings scheduled with the TEBA this month and more may be scheduled in August if needed. The ATA rejected a mediator's recommendations for a new provincial collective agreement last month. The recommendations included a general wage increase of three per cent per year, a process for teachers to deal with classroom complexities and $400 million in classroom improvements. Following the rejection, the ATA initiated a strike authorization vote to gauge the temperature of its members. Nearly all who voted were in favour of going to a strike vote. 10th of RAMADAN CITY, Egypt, April 19 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli visited the TEBA for Developed Industries complex in the 10th of Ramadan City, which includes three factories specialized in advanced electrical manufacturing. He was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Wazir, Head of the Industrial Development Authority Nahed Youssef, and other senior officials. TEBA's Chairman, Ahmed Suleiman, said that the company provides modern electricity distribution solutions and manufactures a range of products usingh more than 70% ade of local components. The company employs over 500 workers and has invested around EGP 2 billion across facilities covering 10 square kilometers. The company produces switch disconnectors, fixed and mobile generators up to 3 MW, electrical kiosks, ring main units, LED lighting, and electrical panels, with over 70% local content. Many products are supplied to national initiatives, including 'Haya Karima.' TEBA spans more than 10 km², with investments reaching EGP 2 billion and over 500 employees. It partners with Schneider Electric for panel production and provides worker housing for non-resident staff.
