Ponguleti says Revenue Department at the ‘People's Doorstep' from Tuesday
Revenue officials must approach land disputes with empathy and fairness, and the problems should be resolved proactively and at no cost, Minister for Revenue Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said as the next phase of the Revenue Sadassu (Revenue Meetings) take off on Tuesday (June 03) and continue till June 30 across all mandals.
At a high-level review meeting held on Monday (June 02), the Minister said the government was determined to correct the systemic failures and mismanagement during the previous administration, which led to widespread complications in land administration.
The revenue teams led by Tahsildars will now travel to each revenue village, accepting applications and resolving issues on-site with the motto 'Revenue Department at the People's Doorstep,' he said.
The Minister said the introduction of the Bhu Bharati Act from April 14 this year was aimed at providing a permanent solution to land disputes by decentralizing and democratizing the land administration process.
Initially implemented in four mandals across four districts on an experimental basis, the programme was expanded to 28 mandals from May 5. Encouraged by the positive response, the government is now rolling out the programme across all mandals.
Mr. Srinivasa Reddy said the pilot initiatives were a huge success. Over 13,000 applications were received in 72 revenue villages during the first phase, and 42,000 applications were submitted across 421 villages in the second phase. About 60% of land issues were resolved so far, with most concerning title clarifications.
The Minister said appointment of 10,954 village administrative officers saw encouraging response with 3,550 candidates already making it to the final merit list following an examination on May 25.
He said a re-survey of 413 villages without existing maps will be conducted in phases, and 6,000 new surveyors are expected to be appointed within two months. Digitisation of survey maps by the Telangana Remote Sensing Applications Center (TGRAC) was currently being piloted in three mandals.
