Safa Ehlanzeni U20 League concludes this weekend
The highly anticipated Safa Ehlanzeni U20 League is heating up, and following TS Galaxy Academy's defeats in their last two games, their hopes of winning the title have been dashed. They suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Mpumalanga (MP) School of Excellence at the Easthigh Sports Ground on Sunday, July 20. Currently the only two teams that stand a chance of winning the title are MP School of Excellence and Sinani United FC. MP School of Excellence are on top of the log with 45 points, with one match against Game United remaining. Sinani United FC are in the second spot with 41 points after 20 games. Two encounters remain for them, against Mthimba Football Academy and Black Medal FC. Game United are last on the log with five points after 20 games. Mthimba collected three points against MP School of Excellence and one against Sinani United earlier in the season. In all Black Medal FC's league matches, they have scored first, but have not been able to protect their lead, lacking consistency in their games. Idlabantu FC were leading the charge in the first round of the league, but they failed to maintain their form in the second. In most of their encounters, the club did not have their full squad on the pitch. They managed to score first in most of their encounters and drew with Sinani United. Idlabantu FC are currently in fourth with 38 points after 21 games. Junior Spurs are another team that picked up form in the second round of the season, but they have lost points in games that would see them compete for the league title, including the 2-0 defeat by MP School of Excellence at KaBokweni Stadium. Spurs are in seventh position with 28 points after 20 games. According to the Safa Ehlanzeni U20 League co-ordinator, George Kgoale, the Mbombela Stream league is expected to finish by the end of July. TS Galaxy Academy dominate Hotspurs in title chase at Halls Sports Ground
TS Galaxy Academy defeated Mataffin Hotspurs FC 3-0 at Halls Sports Ground last Wednesday, July 9. The young Rockets came into the match hungry for victory as they continue to chase the league title, while Hotspurs were hoping to secure a spot in the top eight. In a thrilling youth football encounter, TS Galaxy Academy came out attacking from the first whistle. Their aggressive start paid off early, with midfielder Siyanda Xulu opening the scoring in the seventh minute. The visitors continued to dominate, denying the home side any real chance to progress into the Rockets' half. Galaxy's defence proved unrelenting, shutting down Hotspurs' attempts to find an equaliser. Hotspurs briefly pushed forward in the 14th minute, managing to play in the opposition's half, but they failed to capitalise on their presence inside the 18-yard box. In their push for a second goal, the Rockets were flagged offside three times in under five minutes. But their pressure soon paid off when Hotspurs lost control in midfield, and Mbuso Makhubela punished them with a clinical second goal in the 22nd minute. Hotspurs' frustration showed when Mxondisi Mdhluli received the first yellow card of the match in the 34th minute for a foul on Xulu. TS Galaxy Academy went into the break leading 2-0. The second half opened with Aphelele Kubheka receiving the Rockets' first yellow card in the 49th minute. Hotspurs continued to push for a goal, but Galaxy's defensive structure remained intact. For ten minutes, the Rockets dominated possession and launched several attacks, forcing set pieces just outside the Hotspurs' box. In the 71st minute, Hotspurs finally had a shot on goal, but goalkeeper Clarrel Ndlovu was quick to deny them. With two minutes remaining, Luyanda Ngutshani of TS Galaxy Academy was booked for unsporting behaviour, but it did little to take the shine off a dominant performance. The match ended 3-0 after regular time. Mataffin Hotspurs now sit in ninth place with 18 points from 19 games, while TS Galaxy Academy remain third with 37 points from 18 fixtures. Idlabantu FC end TS Galaxy Academy's winning streak in the Safa U20 league
Idlabantu FC put a swift end to TS Galaxy Academy's winning streak in week 14 of the Safa Ehlanzeni U20 League. TS Galaxy were defeated 2-0 at the Valencia Sports Complex on Monday, April 28. The mini Rockets dominated in the opening minutes of the game, leaving Idlabantu FC with few opportunities to score. They created lot of chances in their opponents' final third, but did not manage to convert them into goals. This lack of action sent both teams to the dressing rooms goalless at half-time. Coming back strong, it only took five minutes for Idlabantu FC's Steven Banda to score in the second half, after TS Galaxy's goalkeeper, Karabo Monareng, made a costly mistake in his box. Khanya Mthinfi scored the second goal. ALSO READ: KaBokweni DJ spins to success Despite their thrilling win, some of Idlabantu FC's players collected yellow cards: Njabulo Mashabane for wasting time, Thabang Maluleka for a reckless foul and Linda Mgwenya for unsporting behaviour and equipment violation on the pitch. Idlabantu FC's coach, Junior Makhubele, said his team benefitted from the experience they received in the previous league, adding that their confidence was high. 'Our aim was to draw or be in the lead by half-time. We had to use analysis and strategy to win this game. This was our second time playing against TS Galaxy, and not the first time defeating them. With very few resources, the boys continue to show hunger and dedication to winning the league,' Makhubele said. TS Galaxy''s coach, Thulani Mngomezulu, expressed his disappointment in the team's performance, highlighting that they lost their shape after Monareng's mistake.
