Survivor's Jeff Probst Details ‘Painfully Difficult' Task of Casting Season 50 Returnees: ‘There's Blood Everywhere!' — Watch
In next year's Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans, you are going to decide certain elements of how the game will be played! But what fans won't be deciding is its returning cast, and with over 700 players to choose from, host Jeff Probst is getting real about the 'brutal' task ahead for the show's producers. After all, how do you select just 20 dynamic players out of a sea of hundreds? 'I am open to ideas!' Probst told TVLine in our in-studio interview above. 'We had about 200 [to start] and we said, 'OK, these are all interesting names' and you can make a different case for each of them. Then we got it down to 100. That first cut was brutal! Then we got it down to 70 and now there's blood everywhere! So, I am not gonna lie and tell you we know who's going to be on the show right now because we don't. It was extremely exciting and painfully difficult to do because there are going to be people disappointed all over the place, but there's going to be a lot of people very excited to be the representative of our 50th season.' But relinquishing that much creative control, Probst admits, has been 'a little terrifying.' Our Survivor 50 Dream Cast View List 'It is still, even in this moment, a little terrifying because we're used to designing the game,' he says. 'There's symmetry, there's a payoff, we know what's going to be in the game… But this is going to truly be an experiment and I think it is the next evolution which is, 'Let's give the fans an array of choices and let's see what they choose, and see what game we end up with!'' In our interview above, Probst breaks down the genesis of the Season 50 theme, and reflects on the show's 25-year legacy. We also chat about the highly debated fire-making challenge, and I tell him exactly where my vote will be going (#JusticeForChrissy!). Survivor 48 Premiere: Jeff Probst Talks [Spoiler]'s Biggest Mistake, Offers Advice to Future Players — Watch
48 Two challenge losses isn't the best way to kick-start a Survivor season, but that was the Vula tribe's fate in the season premiere of Survivor 48. More from TVLine Paradise's James Marsden Takes Us Inside Cal's Most POTUS Moment So Far: 'If I Were President, This Is How I Would Want to Speak' - Watch Survivor's Jeff Probst Weighs In on That Major Season 49 Casting Rumor The Voice Recap: Night 4 of the Blinds Saves the Best for Last - Feast Your Ears On the Dazzling Performance The team in green struggled to pull things together in Episode 1, with some castaways harboring different opinions on how the game's first three days should be played. While idol-finder Sai clocked Vula as a bunch of (:::checks notes:::) 'hoochie mamas' who were too busy playing the 'get to know you game,' things took a slight upturn after the tribe recouped its supplies and got its first fire going. But while Sai was hitting the ground running, scrambling for the idol and forging fast alliances, 'hard-hitting business lady' Stephanie worked more casually, trying to build strong foundations via authentic conversations. But after volunteering for the immunity challenge puzzle and failing to deliver the W, no amount of apologizing could've prevented her from becoming the season's first boot, and not even a Shot in the Dark could keep her torch lit. When host Jeff Probst stopped by our TVLine studio Monday, we asked him for his take on what went wrong and whether Steph could've done anything to save her game at Tribal Council. 'Stephanie is a great example of why Survivor is extremely difficult to win, because she's a leader,' Probst tells TVLine. 'She's in charge of a lot of people. She gets in this game and decides for a minute, 'I'm just going to sit on my hands and kind of see what happens.' Her hands never came out from under her butt. It happened too fast. Is she a bad player? No! She read the room, [made] a choice, it didn't work out. Put her on another tribe, she's Final 3, who knows… Stephanie tried to get a pulse and hers was gone by the time it was over.' In the video above, Probst also revealed some useful advice for future players of the game. The Traitors Recap: The Hooded Villains Face a Major Decision — Plus, Who Was Murdered… In Person?
When we last visited the castle, Alan Cumming left a ginormous cliffhanger in our laps. The Traitors were about to murder their next victim in person! But not everyone was vulnerable to be flicked off the chess board — only Gabby, Tom, Dylan, Chrishell and Dolores were up for grabs. So who didn't make it back to the castle for bagels and lox? Let's recap. All is revealed at breakfast as the surviving faithful show face to game and gossip. When we flash back to the night before, we see Danielle and Carolyn hand-deliver a waxed letter to… Chrishell, telling the Selling Sunset star that she was 'too faithful,' and therefore would never have been banished. Sad, but true. Shatter her picture frame, Alan. Next! More from TVLine Paradise Recap: What Cal Knew, and When He Knew It - Plus: The Tablet Thief Revealed! The Voice Recap: Was Night 2 of the Blinds More of a 'Wow' or a 'Whatevs'? The Way Home's Evan Williams on Elliot's 'Powder-Keg Situation' With Emma and What He'd Say to Thomas As a result of this week's task that includes creepy dolls, lullabies and the debut of Tom Sandoval's singing career, the group earns $20,000 for the prize pot. The shield? That was won by Ciara. But she'll have to survive the night's roundtable in order to take advantage of its sweet, sweet protection. While Ivar and Danielle chat about potentially banishing Ciara, Carolyn has another thought in mind. If Britney is banished, Danielle will be forced to be more loyal to her. (Or so she thinks!) Dylan also has Brit on the mind, citing Derrick's accusation against Britney at his last roundtable. Ciara, however, can't seem to live down the coffin theory. That's exactly who Britney is gunning for and exactly who she pitches to Danielle. ROUNDTABLE | Alan gathers the group for their next elimination, where Ciara is first to speak up to defend herself against that ol' coffin biz. Not quite helping her case is the fact that many of the faithful feel that there must be at least one female traitor, if not two. Britney states that the only two strays she caught last round were from Ciara and Rob, another reason why Ciara might be a traitor. Ciara switches her focus. When Jeremy was killed, the last person's name in his mouth was Danielle. Danielle counters by reminding everyone that she voted for Rob not once, but twice. In addition, she never would've killed Bob H. and Derrick. (Hah!) But faithful members like Ivar and Sam can't seem to let the coffin thing go. Frankly, it dominates the discussion, but will it dominate the votes? Alan puts the kibosh on the conversation and when those mini chalkboards flip around, Ciara votes for Britney, but everyone else throws daggers Ciara's way and she is banished from the game. In the turret, Danielle and Carolyn get a tempting offer from Alan. They can murder a faithful as usual or — you guessed it! — try to seduce a faithful to the dark side. Of course, if they opt to recruit, they forfeit their ability to murder this round. Danielle wants to recruit, but Carolyn wants to murder. They know they have to give the faithful a female traitor to slaughter. Dolores is clearly not an option, which is seemingly the only thing these two can actually agree on. So it all comes down to Gabby or Britney. But Carolyn is far too afraid to let Danielle's 'bestie' inside the turret. (Can you blame her?) Their decision… will be revealed next week. Is Carolyn right not to trust Danielle? Will this decision tear these two apart once again? Let your thoughts be known in the comments!
