Shikhar Dhawan shares emotional message for son Zoravar, says 'I just want him to know...'

Shikhar Dhawan with son Zoravar. New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan is estranged from his son following his separation from Aesha Mukerji. Dhawan, known for his aggressive batting style, has been privately dealing with the emotional consequences of this family separation. The 39-year-old recently expressed his strong desire to be reunited with his son. After eight years of marriage, cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and Aesha Mukerji divorced in 2023. A Delhi court granted the divorce, citing mental cruelty by Mukerji. The ruling's most significant consequence for Dhawan was restricted visitation rights to his son. The court granted Dhawan a divorce but awarded his ex-wife, who resides in Australia with their son Zoravar, permanent custody. The court recognized Dhawan's relationship with his son and granted him visitation rights. The court ruling grants Dhawan visitation rights with Zoravar in both India and Australia, and permits regular video calls. In a recent interview on Ranveer Allahbadia's show, 'Taakat,' cricketer Shikhar Dhawan discussed the challenges he faced following his separation from Zoravar and shared how he manages those difficulties. 'After 20 years, my son will be 31-32 years old. I would tell him whatever you do be happy,' said Dhawan when asked bout what kind of mentorship he would like to give Zoravar after 20 years. 'And the way to be happy is to look inside yourself. Look at your shortcomings, recognise your strengths, and make them better,' he added. 'Now I am in that situation where I can't speak to my son, I don't make it a big deal. I feel like I am talking to him spiritually… I am hugging him, giving him love,' he said. 'I am living a good life but my son is living in another country. I don't know what he is doing, in what situation he is, I have no idea, I am not in touch,' he added. 'I just want him to know that his father is always with him. When he will have the strength to come here and if he wants to be with me with his will and heart, I am always there for him,' he shared emotionally. 'And of course as a father, any father will do this, he concluded. Dhawan has openly and repeatedly demonstrated his affection for his son, Zoravar, through various public platforms, including social media and interviews, emphasizing that his paternal love remains strong regardless of distance or legal constraints.

Dhawan recalls when broken-arm heroics couldn't save him from Team India axe: ‘Might as well die on the pitch'

Despite suffering a broken arm during a Test in 2016, former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan continued to bat but was later dropped from the Test team due to poor form. read more Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has revealed one of the toughest phases of his international career when he was shown the door despite batting for the team with a broken arm. The incident took place during India's second Test against New Zealand at Kolkata, which was played from 30 September to 3 October 2016. Before the Eden Gardens Test, former opener Dhawan had gone five innings without a single fifty-plus score and in the last 13 innings, he had scored just one half-century. Dhawan inched closer to getting dropped from the Indian team after scoring just one run in the Kolkata Test's first innings. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Dhawan's broken heroics couldn't save him from axe The former Delhi cricketer needed big runs in the second innings, but he was hit by a Trent Boult delivery, suffering a massive arm injury. 'The most difficult phase of my career, there was a time when I was really desperate. I knew that if I don't score runs I would be out of the team. We had a Test match in Kolkata, against New Zealand,' Dhawan said on Ranveer Allahbadia's new YouTube show called 'Taakat'. 'First innings I got out, second innings I went out and got hit by a ball by Trent Boult, it broke my arm. 'I knew that if I choose to sit out of that innings, I would be out of that team. So I decided no, I'm going to play, I'm going to see out the innings. Pehle hi mara hua toh hoon, toh puura marke jaun na (I'm dead either way, so might as well die completely on the pitch and go out)' said Dhawan. Despite suffering a broken arm, Dhawan decided to continue batting, however, he could only score 17 runs in the innings, forcing the selectors to pick a new opener in the next match. That, however, didn't break Dhawan's spirit as he realised that staying happy is the most valuable thing. 'I played with a broken arm, got out on 15-20 runs, and after that I was out of the Test team. Then I realised that when I introspected, I was too desperate for that place. It's a very valuable place, people live like kings there. I was cribbing a little. I did put in a lot of work, but I worked with a desperate energy. That's why I didn't get the results. So I asked myself, what is most important for me in life? Happiness is most important, that I stay happy,' said Dhawan. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'This was my dream, and I lived out my dream, set a world record, and I knew this would never stop, it would keep going. The race will never stop, someone will always be there,' he added. Dhawan scored 187 on his Test debut against Australia in Mohali, which is the fastest century by a player on debut in Tests.

Ex-India cricketer reveals Virat Kohli dropped him from team despite batting with a broken arm: 'Pehle hi mara hua...'

While Virat Kohli established himself as arguably India's greatest Test captain during his long stint in the role, it often came at some cost as he was notorious for chopping and changing the shape of his team. Several players fell victim to this tendency after even the briefest runs of quiet form, as Kohli's tinkering left even high-quality players out in the cold on more than one occasion. One such cricketer who often found himself on the wrong end of Kohli's changes was southpaw opener Shikhar Dhawan, who was in and out of the Test team during his career. Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia's new YouTube show called Taakat, Dhawan reflected on the innings that saw him temporarily dropped as India's Test opener in 2016, after a quiet run of form that he knew put his place in the team on the line. This was a period that Dhawan sees as the darkest during his international career for India. 'The most difficult phase of my career, there was a time when I was really desperate. I knew that if I don't score runs I would be out of the team. We had a Test match in Kolkata, against New Zealand,' explained Dhawan. 'First innings I got out, second innings I went out and got hit by a ball by Trent Boult, it broke my arm.' 'I knew that if I choose to sit out of that innings, I would be out of that team. So I decided no, I'm going to play, I'm going to see out the innings. Pehle hi mara toh hua hoon, toh marke jao na poora (I'm dead either way, so die completely on the pitch and go out,)' said Dhawan. Dhawan's match at Eden Gardens against New Zealand came at the end of a stretch of eight Test matches without a Test century and only one half-century, which led to captain Virat Kohli and the selectors looking elsewhere. 'I played with a broken arm, got out on 15-20 runs, and after that I was out of the Test team. Then I realised that when I introspected, I was too desperate for that place. It's a very valuable place, people live like kings there,' he explained. 'I was cribbing a little. I did put in a lot of work, but I worked with a desperate energy. That's why I didn't get the results. So I asked myself, what is most important for me in life? Happiness is most important, that I stay happy,' stated Dhawan. 'This was my dream, and I lived out my dream, set a world record, and I knew this would never stop, it would keep going. The race will never stop, someone will always be there,' he continued, referencing his debut century against Australia in Mohali, which stands as the quickest ton by a player on debut in Test cricket. 'I started work on myself internally. I'll be happy, if I have to be in the Indian team, the Indian team will come to me itself,' said Dhawan. 'That's how I played in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.' Dhawan's patience and persistence did bear fruits, as he returned a year after that episode in Kolkata and announced himself with a score of 190 in Galle on his return. His comeback followed in the wake of the 2017 Champions Trophy, in which he finished as the top scorer in the tournament with 338 runs in India's run to the final. However, Dhawan would once again be dropped from the Test team in 2018, his final match coming against England at the Oval in London.
