Table Tennis World Championships 2025: Ayhika-Sutirtha, Yashaswini-Diya give India winning start; Sreeja knocked out in first round
Indian women's doubles pairs of Ayhika Mukherjee/Sutirtha Mukherjee and Yashaswini Ghorpade/Diya Chitale won their respective Round of 64 matches while Sreeja Akula was knocked out at the Table Tennis World Championships 2025 in Doha on Saturday.
Sreeja started on the right foot by winning the first game but Thailand's Suthasini Sawettabut rallied back and won four games on the trot to oust the Indian 9-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5, 11-2.
Ayhika and Sutirtha beat Turkey's Ozge Yilmaz and Ece Harac 3-2 while Yashaswini and Diya beat Markhabo Magdieva and Asel Erkebaeva of Uzbekistan 3-1.
The duo of Ayhika and Sutirtha, after conceding the lead in the match, won the second game. They managed to take the match to 2-2 before winning it 4-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 11-7.
Yashaswini and Diya just erred in the first game before clinching three consecutive games to win the match 9-11, 11-2, 11-9, 11-8.
In the men's doubles, the Gujarat duo of Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah eased past Slovenia's Peter Hribar and Deni Kozul in straight games, winning with a scoreline of 11-7, 11-8, 11-6.
Amongst other results in the singles category, Diya breezed past Spain's Sofia-Xuan Zhang with a dominant 4-0 win while Manush won 4-2 against Portugal's Tiago Apolonia.
