Young man killed in shooting during parking lot 'gathering' near New Castle, police say
A 19-year-old man died after being shot in a New Castle-area neighborhood the night of June 5, New Castle County Police said.
Officers were called to the 100 block of Ryan Ave. in the Rose Hill Gardens neighborhood about 9:25 p.m. for reports of the shooting. Police said a "gathering" was taking place in a parking lot.
"Numerous people" were in attendance, police said.
At some point, a gun was fired and Tahjir Pipkin was shot multiple times in his upper body. It's not clear whether an argument broke out or what led to the shooting.
Police and emergency medical personnel tried to perform first aid on Pipkin, who was rushed to Christiana Hospital. He died there, police said.
The homicide came a day after a man was shot in the face near New Castle by 31-year-old Kyle Schaal. The victim told police Schaal was his girlfriend's "stalker."
