Sugababes' Keisha Buchanan steps out with bandmates Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy for ELLE UK's Celebration of Women In Music after ex appeared in court

Keisha Buchanan stepped out with her Sugababes bandmates on Tuesday for ELLE UK's Celebration of Women In Music. The girlband singer, 40, headed to the event, which was held in London in partnership with Fendi, with Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy. Keisha looked effortlessly chic as she arrived in a bright red figure-hugging short-sleeved Fendi dress which reached down to her knees. She paired the dress with black stilettos and small oval sunglasses as she posed with Mutya and Siobhán, as well as stars Jamelia and Rita Ora. Keisha's appearance comes just days after her footballer ex-boyfriend appeared in court ahead of a trial next year over allegations he assaulted, harassed and controlled her. Taiwo Leo Atieno, 39 – who once played for Luton Town and the Kenyan national team – is accused of repeatedly assaulting the chart-topping star, banning her from wearing red lipstick, and controlling her every move, from what she ate to when she could shower. The alleged abuse, said to have occurred between 2015 and 2018, included three physical assaults, one of which left Buchanan in so much pain she required physiotherapy. The singer, now 40, told police the ex-pro striker also dictated her finances, her diet, her personal grooming, and even her TV choices – in what prosecutors described as an 'oppressive and controlling relationship'. Last week, at a preliminary hearing at Southwark Crown Court, Atieno was granted bail under strict conditions ahead of a five-day trial set to start on April 13 next year. Appearing via videolink from HMP Wormwood Scrubs, he spoke only to confirm he understood the conditions of bail. Atieno must surrender his passport, abide by a strict curfew and live at his home address until his trial. He is also forbidden from leaving England and Wales, applying for any travel documents, or having any contact whatsoever with Ms Buchanan — including via email or social media. 'The complainant states that while she lived with the defendant she wasn't allowed to open her own letters or sort out her finances. 'The complainant would have to ask for money whenever she wanted it. 'The defendant would get annoyed if the complainant wore red lipstick. He berated her and called her trashy, and told her she looked like a prostitute whenever she wore this.' Mr Kalber added: 'This then fed into her dietary issues, due to the defendant controlling what she was allowed to eat.' Atieno allegedly carried out three assaults on Ms Buchanan, two in the defendant's bedroom and one in the front room. One assault allegedly saw Ms Buchanan experience a sharp pain in her lower back, which she described as feeling like a kick. The singer had to undergo physiotherapy as a result of the abuse, it is alleged. The singer claims Atieno controlled her use of the shower while they were living together and only allowed her to use the gym 'at certain times', the court heard. After being blocked from contacting her in any way, the footballer allegedly sent Ms Buchanan emails, and is accused of harassment over the course of three years.

Sugababes singer Keisha Buchanan was 'beaten' by footballer ex who 'controlled what she ate and stopped her wearing red lipstick', court told

A former football star has been accused of a ten-year campaign of abuse and harassment against Sugababes star Keisha Buchanan. Taiwo Leo Atieno, 39, who played for Kenya and Luton Town, was in a relationship with the founding bandmember, 40, between 2015 and 2018. During that time, he is alleged to have assaulted the star on three occasions, after which she had to undergo physiotherapy. One assault allegedly saw Ms Buchanan experience a sharp pain in her lower back, which she described as feeling like a kick. He is also alleged to have controlled her letters and finances, as well as how she presented herself and what she was allowed to eat. He has also been accused of harassing the star after their relationship and alleged breaches of a court order banning him from contacting her. Prosecutor Edward Kalber told Willesden Magistrates' Court today: 'The offending is severe in its nature and has caused [...] problems for the defendant, both psychological and physical. He allegedly also contacted the singer demanding £25,000, the court heard. Atieno, of Kennington, southwest London, is currently in custody. The case is due to be dealt with this afternoon by Deputy District Judge Clare Boichot. Ms Buchanan was one of three singers to found the Sugababes alongside Mutya Buena and Siobhan Dohaghy. The band, which split up in 2011, achieved songs at the top of the charts including Push the Button and Round Round.
