Young girl's viral moment, asks White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, 'How many people has Donald Trump fired?' Here's how she responded
During a special event, children took over the White House briefing room, and they did not hold back. From President Trump's candy habits to his firing record, young kids asked it all. There's one brave young girl who stole the show with a question that made everyone laugh and think. They were celebrating "Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day' on May 20. The children of reporters, including the White House press corps and White House staff, were invited to the press briefing room by the White House as a late celebration of the occasion. What did kids ask about Donald Trump during the briefing? Children sat in the seats that their parents typically occupied and asked for answers in sweet, high-pitched voices. Karoline Leavitt responded with humour and sincerity to all the questions posed by them. Live Events Does President Donald Trump enjoy embracing people? "Yes, I do think he likes to give hugs," Karoline Leavitt, the press secretary for the White House, said. Which food is his favourite? "He likes to eat big, beautiful steak," Leavitt stated. President Trump would simply snap his fingers and solve all of our nation's problems, Leavitt said in response to a child who asked him which "superpower" he wished he had. Then, a young reporter asked a far bolder and much more relevant question. The moment quickly went viral, highlighting Trump's well-documented firing record. "How many people has President Trump fired?" a young girl who was most likely 4 years old asked the president's press secretary, Karoline Leavitt. How did Leavitt respond to the question about firings? "So far, we haven't had anyone fired, except for one person who did quit their job," Leavitt said after laughing. "But we have a great team here. So far, so good.' Karoline Leavitt didn't name the specific individual in question, though. She might be referring to Mike Waltz, who resigned as Trump's national security adviser on May 1st, just before Trump appointed him as the country's ambassador, as per a report by USA Today. During his first term, Donald Trump gained a reputation for firing White House aides without delay. Trump used the phrase "You're fired" frequently during his tenure on NBC's "The Apprentice." President Trump has also taken a beating ram to the federal workforce since he returned to the White House. Multitudes of federal employees have been fired by the Trump administration, with assistance from Elon Musk's DOGE, in the first four months of his second term. In an effort to eliminate the federal bureaucracy, even more have chosen to leave through buyouts. According to a Reuters analysis, the Trump administration has reduced the number of federal civilian employees by 12%, with roughly 260,000 of them accepting buyouts or other incentives to leave. What were some funny or surprising questions? A young boy asked about Trump's daily candy consumption, which he admitted to enjoying. 'A good amount of candy', and his favourite candy is pink Starbursts and Tootsie Rolls, she responded to the boy. She struggled to answer a question about Trump's least favourite news outlet. Leavitt explained that the answer varies by day. FAQs Did Donald Trump actually fire anyone recently? Karoline Leavitt stated that only one person had left their job so far but did not provide any details. What was the funniest kid's question? Probably the one asking how many people Donald Trump has fired, Karoline Leavitt laughed before responding.

Children take over White House briefing room with questions about Trump's favorite ice cream, superpower
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt fielded questions from the children of journalists and White House officials to celebrate Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day on Tuesday. The children's questions focused mainly on President Donald Trump, with Leavitt being forced to reveal the president's favorite flavor of ice cream, what super power he most wants to have, and whether he likes to give hugs. "Oh, does he like to give hugs? You know, I think he does. I have seen him give many hugs to children and his family and our beautiful first lady. So, yes, I do think he likes to gives hugs," Leavitt told her first questioner. "What is the funnest part about your job, and the hardest part?" the next child asked. I think that the hardest part of my job is also doing things like this in the briefing room and answering all of these questions," she responded, to laughter. I wake up and read the newspaper and watch the news and listen to all of the things that your parents are reporting on in the news, and that's a big part of my job every day," she added. The next child asked about Trump's favorite food, and Leavitt said he prefers steak to anything else. Leavitt informed the next child that Trump's favorite ice cream flavor is a classic ice cream sundae. "If the president could have a superpower, what would it be? That is a very good question," Leavitt responded to the next child. "I think if he had a superpower it would be to just snap his fingers and solve all of our country's problems just like that, because he likes to get things done very quickly but sometimes it takes a little bit longer. "Like today, he had to go to Capitol Hill to convince people to vote for his one big beautiful bill. I bet if he had a superpower he would snap his fingers and get it passed immediately, but Life doesn't work that way, unfortunately," she added. First lady Melania Trump also spent time with kids outside the White House. White House hosts briefing for children on take your kids to work day
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt faced a series of burning questions on Tuesday from those gathered in the briefing room. What is President Trump's favorite order at McDonald's? What is the president's favorite ice cream? Who is his favorite president, besides himself? The White House hosted the children of journalists and staffers in the building for Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day. First lady Melania Trump interacted with children in the Rose Garden who were doing arts and crafts, and Leavitt hosted a briefing for kids where they got to ask questions about the president. 'How many people has he fired?' one child asked. Leavitt responded with a laugh that one person left their job, but so far, the staff is working together well. The press secretary told another questioner that Trump 'loves McDonald's hamburgers and French fries.' Asked what his favorite ice cream is, Leavitt told the kids that she's seen Trump eat ice cream sundaes with chocolate sauce. Leavitt told a child who asked what superpower the president would choose to have that he would want to be able to 'just snap his fingers and solve all of our country's problems just like that. But sometimes it takes a little longer.' 'Who is Donald Trump's favorite president, besides himself?' asked one kid. 'I think that perhaps he would say George Washington,' Leavitt said, joking that Trump would probably say himself otherwise. Leavitt, who gave birth to her first child last summer, was asked what it's like balancing her job with being a new mom. She noted that her baby was in the building along with her mom. 'It is a challenge every day. But it's also a blessing to have this opportunity and to be a mom,' Leavitt said. 'So, you have to learn how to prioritize your time.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
