Job fraud: Audio clip allegedly of accused surfaces

Kochi: Even as city police launched a detailed investigation into the antecedents of a Pathanamthitta-native woman , who allegedly duped many people by offering jobs abroad, an audio clip surfaced online purportedly belonging to the accused. In an audio clip attributed to Karthika Pradeep , who runs Takeoff Consultancy , an overseas educational consultancy, a woman can be heard telling someone that she did things by entering into agreements and she moved legally. The woman, in a harsh tone, said that she only knew to live by cheating and it was her skill. She questioned why people were available to be cheated. Police haven't yet verified the context of the conversation. The accused was arrested in Kozhikode by Central police on Friday in a case in which she allegedly cheated a Thrissur native of Rs 5.23 lakh after promising a job as social worker in the UK. Police found that her agency was allegedly operating without a valid licence or protector of emigrants (PoE) authorisation to send people abroad. Similar complaints came up from several districts against her consultancy, police said.
