I don't like women or girls who wear revealing clothes, to the point where I refuse to take photos with them. ' Not the first time This is not the first time that Vijayvargiya has commented on the dressing choices of women. In 2024, Vijayvargiya had received widespread criticism for comparing women in 'bad dresses' to Shurpanakha – a demoness from the Ramayana. That earlier statement, made at a religious gathering in Indore, had sparked furious responses from across the political spectrum. 'We see goddess in women. But (with) the kind of bad dresses the girls wear and move around, they do not embody goddesses but look like Shurpanakha,' he had said. 'God has given you a good and beautiful body… dress well, friends.' Opposition leaders had slammed Vijayvargiya then saying, 'Are we living under Talibani rule that the government will tell women what to wear, what to eat and whom to meet?' asked All India Mahila Congress chief Netta D'Souza. FIR, 3 arrested in Punjab's Bathinda after Mehraj nagar panchayat councillor tells CM Bhagwant Mann that he paid money for more compensation

Bathinda: Attending a state govt event, a farmer from Mehraj village in Bathinda told Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday that farm unions were collecting money from farmers to get more compensation for their lands to be acquired by NHAI, leading to the registration of an FIR by the evening. After listening to Ranjodh Singh, who is also a councillor of Mehraj nagar panchayat, Mann directed Bathinda senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amneet Kondal, who was present at the interaction, to personally look into the complaint. The SSP left the venue and inquired. In the initial investigation, the complaint was found to be true, and an FIR was registered under charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy. The action, however, invited sharp criticism from Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who said the complainant was also known as Jodha Mehraj and was a "crony of AAP MLA from Rampura Phul". "Punjab is witnessing Talibani rule," he wrote. Khaira also posted a video of the man complaining to the CM and said Mann "in turn orders madam SSP to register FIR without basic inquiry merely because the person involved is worker" of SAD chief Sukhbir Badal. "Punjab has been turned into a police state," he added. According to the FIR, Ranjodh has alleged that land of many farmers in Mehraj and Sidhana villages of Rampura subdivision in Bathinda was acquired over two years ago by NHAI. They were paid Rs 50 lakh per acre. He alleged that Mehraj resident Kulwinder Singh and four others told villagers that they would get them Rs 20 lakh per acre more if they paid them Rs 20,000 per acre. He said many landowners agreed and gave them the money. Ranjodh claimed that he paid Rs 42,000 for his two acres of land. He claimed that they never got the enhanced compensation or the money he paid. Ranjodh alleged that even on Wednesday, the farmers spoke to Kulwinder, but in vain. Acting on the complaint, an FIR was registered against Kulwinder Singh, Parwinder Singh, Malkit Singh, Jagmohan Singh, and Harpal Singh under sections 318(4) (cheating), 343 (fraudulent cancellation, destruction, or defacing of important documents like wills, adoption authorities, or valuable securities), and 61(2)(a) (criminal conspiracy charges). SSP Amneet Kondal confirmed the registration of FIR.
