Control room set up in Theni to receive rain-related complaints
With Theni region receiving continuous rains in the past two days and more rains expected in the next few days, the district administration has directed all the departments concerned to be prepared and carry out necessary emergency work.
In a press release, Collector Ranjeet Singh has instructed the officials concerned to ensure that the water channels were cleared of wild growth of weeds and encroachments so that they conveyed the rainwater to ponds and tanks. The Collector also instructed them to keep a close watch on Mullaperiyar river, Kottakudi river, Sothupparai dam and Vaigai dam.
People living near the river and other waterbodies had been asked to keep vigil and take precautionary measures. Parents were urged not to allow their children to play, take bath or go near the waterbodies.
