Father of 5 jailed 3 years for striking wife with thermos mug

PETALING JAYA : A father of five has been jailed for three years by the Kuching sessions court after he pleaded guilty to striking his wife with a thermos mug earlier this month.
Tang Cheng Chong, 44, pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to his wife at their home on Jalan Sejingkat 1 at about 10am on June 1, Dayak Daily reported.
The facts of the case state that the couple had a heated argument after which the victim threw a piece of clothing at Tang, accidentally knocking over the mug and spilling his drink.
He then struck her on the right cheek using the stainless steel thermos mug, leaving a cut.
The charge was framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which provides for up to 10 years in prison, a fine or both, upon conviction.
It was read with Section 326A of the Penal Code, which allows for double the penalty since it is a case of domestic violence.
