Where does Tanner Franklin rank in top 150 prospects for 2025 MLB draft? The 2025 SEC baseball regular season concluded on Saturday. Ahead of the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Alabama, MLB released its list of the top 150 prospects for the 2025 MLB draft. Among the prospects, Tennessee right-handed pitcher Tanner Franklin ranks No. 106 overall. He ranks as the No. 22 right-handed pitcher on the prospect list. "Franklin ranks among the NCAA Division I leaders in overall and in-zone swing-and-miss rate with his fastball, no real surprise considering it operates at 94-98 mph and reaches 102 with huge carry and some armside run," Franklin's scouting profile says. "He also throws one of the hardest cutters in college baseball, averaging 90 mph with a peak of 93, though it doesn't miss nearly as many bats as his heater." The Jefferson City, Tennessee native played his first two seasons in college at Kennesaw State before returning to Tennessee. Franklin made 23 regular-season appearances for the Vols in 2025. Tennessee opens in-state series with win over Vanderbilt baseball
No. 12 Tennessee (39-11, 15-10 SEC) opened its final Southeastern Conference home series Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Vols defeated No. 10 Vanderbilt (34-16, 14-11 SEC), 3-2. Rankings reflect the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. Liam Doyle (9-2) started for Tennessee and pitched seven innings. He totaled 12 strikeouts and 100 pitches, including 71 strikes, against 24 batters. Doyle allowed three hits, zero walks, zero runs, four fly outs, four ground outs and hit one batter. Advertisement Tanner Franklin relieved Doyle in the eighth inning. He pitched one inning and recorded one strikeout. Nate Snead earned his fifth save of the season for the Vols. Tennessee's offense totaled nine hits, including doubles from Dalton Bargo, Dean Curley and Hunter Ensley. JD Thompson started for Vanderbilt and pitched six innings. He allowed two earned runs, seven hits and two walks. Thompson totaled 102 pitches, including 68 strikes, against 24 batters. Tanner Franklin threw a 102 mph fastball in Tennessee baseball's game against Oklahoma State on Friday. The Vols reliever topped 100 mph with his third pitch to Cowboys first baseman Nolan Schubart in the Astros Foundation College Classic in Houston. Franklin hit 99 mph consistently in his first inning against Oklahoma State. He struck out two before getting Schubart to fly out to center field. Franklin transferred to Tennessee after two seasons at Kennesaw State. The 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher had a 6.34 ERA in 34 games with three starts in his first two seasons two seasons.
