DTC issues new SOP, faulty buses to be removed within 15 minutes

By Tanya Chugh New Delhi [India], May 23 (ANI): The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has issued a new SOP to remove broken-down buses in the national capital and has deployed cranes and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) at 30 key locations across the city that will monitor and function to remove the faulty buses. Under the new SOP, the faulty buses will be removed within 15 minutes. The buses purchased in 2010 have reached the end of their service life, and their Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs) have also expired, so the government plans to remove them from the roads, said a senior official. At least 100-123 buses break down daily, especially in areas like ISBT Kashmere Gate, Minto Bridge, Sarai Kale Khan, ITO, AIIMS Flyover, and Dhaula Kuan. Keeping this in mind, the new SOP has been issued, he added. As per the new SOP Issued, the QRTs formed will have to respond within 5 minutes of receiving a breakdown alert. After this, the buses will be towed to the nearest depot within 15 minutes. An around-the-clock control room has been established for the same. The waterlogging problem will also be monitored through it. To make it function smoothly, 100 field operation teams have been deployed, and 70 mobile bike teams will fix on-site issues like brake failure. This decision comes in a bid to improve the transport infrastructure and facilities in the state. The main focus is to remove the buses that have reached their end of service life and are not in condition to be used. The government has also planned to make the bus depots in Delhi commercial hubs, which will generate revenue of Rs 2600 crore. On May 2, the Delhi government also launched mini electric buses, DEVI, in the national capital to boost last-mile connectivity. The government further plans to launch more electric buses on the roads of the national capital. (ANI)

Delhi government to set up 32 real-time water monitoring stations for Yamuna clean-up

By Tanya Chugh New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): In line with its commitment to clean the Yamuna river, the BJP-led Delhi government will install 32 real-time water quality monitoring stations to monitor the river water and the drains flowing into it. A senior official said ten stations will be set up on the Yamuna River and 22 on major drains. Some of the Yamuna river sites where Monitoring Stations will be set up include Palla, ISBT Bridge, ITO Bridge, Nizamuddin Bridge, Okhla Barrage, etc. The major drains that will be included are Najafgarh, Metcalfe House, Khyber Pass, Sweeper Colony, along with some border drains that include Singhu Border (DD6, Sonepat), Bahadurgarh, Shahdara, Sahibabad and Banthia. These Monitoring Stations will monitor the river along with drains flowing into it and record the date of the cleaning procedure. All the monitoring stations are expected to be operational by the end of this year. The tender process has already been initiated. These stations will monitor water quality in real time and transmit the data directly to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) server. These stations will monitor key pollutants, for instance, BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), TSS (Total Suspended Solids), along with Levels of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Ammonia. The Yamuna cleaning project is already underway, where the treatement of sewage has begun. Delhi LG VK Saxena, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Minister Parvesh Verma are monitoring the procedure. The trio has regularly inspected major drains that also fall into the river. Yamuna cleaning has been a significant issue in the state, where the previous government promised to clean it but failed to do so. The BJP government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has also promised and plans to clean it within its first tenure. In the Delhi budget 2025- 26, Delhi CM Gupta allocated 500 crore specifically for Yamuna cleaning, where funding will be designated for the construction of 40 decentralised sewage treatment plants (STPs). The aim is to treat the water before it enters the river, thereby addressing pollution at its source. A 1500 cr budget has also been allocated to rejuvenate Yamuna and improve the state's sewage infrastructure. (ANI)

Delhi government's new project: DTC depots to become commercial hubs, aim for Rs 2,600 crore revenue

By Tanya Chugh New Delhi [India], May 15 (ANI): The Delhi Transport Corporation aims to generate Rs 2600 crores in revenue after its depots become commercial hubs. The decision comes in a bid to rescue the continuously loss-making Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), and the Delhi government has accelerated work on a commercial development plan. Approvals have been granted for the redevelopment of Banda Bahadur Marg and Sukhdev Vihar depots, a top source told ANI. The Banda Bahadur Marg depot is expected to generate revenue of Rs 1,858 crore and whereas the Sukhdev Vihar depot will generate revenue of Rs 758 crore. These multi-level depots and projects will generate revenue through parking, advertising, installation of mobile towers and office space rentals, aiming to enhance infrastructure and DTC's financial health. The project will follow a self-sustaining model without any DTC or government investment. The aim is to redevelop these bus depots, enhance facilities and infrastructure to generate revenue, and improve DTC's finances, as it has been in loss for quite some time now. The project is expected to be completed in 21 to 28 months. The CAG reports tabled in Delhi's Vidhan Sabha revealed that DTC's losses have increased substantially, with accumulated losses surging from Rs 25,299.87 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 60,741.03 crore in 2021-22. The report raised serious concerns about DTC's financial health and operational performance, as the fleet size has also reduced in previous years. It recommended reforms to improve the condition. With the aim of improving the bus facilities, the Delhi government launched mini electric buses DEVI on 2nd May in the national capital to boost last-mile connectivity. The government further plans to discard the old buses, the fleet which has finished its time and replace them with new electric buses. (ANI)
