8 pistols, 16 magazines seized from Tripura Sundari Express at Agartala railway station
The Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized eight pistols and 16 empty magazines from the Tripura Sundari Express at the Agartala railway station on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters, B K Sinha, Assistant Commandant, RPF (Agartala), said, 'We spotted two bags during a routine inspection. Each bag contained four pistols and eight magazines. These were seized from the Tripura Sundari Express coming from Firozpur (in Punjab).'
Tapash Das, Officer in-Charge, Agartala railway station, said, 'We have lodged a case at the government railway police station. We believe that miscreants might have brought these, and we shall monitor the footage from CCTVs installed at the railway station premises. We will bring those involved in this to justice.'
When asked, Das said the pistols are all factory-made and smaller in size than the 9 mm service pistols.
Notably, Tripura has witnessed a series of arrests of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas involved in drugs and arms trafficking in recent months.
