Elmwood Strawberry Festival returns to celebrate local heritage
ELMWOOD, Ill. (WMBD) — A tradition spanning decades is coming back to the city of Elmwood this weekend.
The Elmwood Strawberry Festival is happening on Saturday, June 7th. Tara Lim and Emily Brunnelson from the festival's planning committee stopped by WMBD This Morning to talk about the event.
According to Lim, the city used to have a strawberry farm, and the festival began as a way to promote that. But the scope of the event grew over time, now bringing in the entire town.
'It has since shifted into, 'here's what Elmwood has to offer,' and also we want to grow our future,' Lim said.
The event kicks off with a strawberry pancake breakfast at 6 a.m. From there, events including a vendor fair, car show and 5K race happen all day long.
The festival's food tent opens at 10 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m., offering pork chops, hot dogs, and of course, strawberry treats. There will also be live music throughout the event, with the River Valley Big Band and The Aristocrats playing a variety of songs while visitors check out the festival.
The Elmwood Strawberry Festival will rock downtown this Saturday. For more details, you can check out the festival's Facebook page.
