Saudi sponsor accused of assaulting Egyptian workers; Cairo embassy steps in

A group of Egyptian workers in Saudi Arabia reportedly suffered an assault by their sponsor (Kafeel), prompting intervention from Cairo's embassy in Riyadh, according to the Egyptian community in the Kingdom and local media, RT Arabic reported. A video of the incident, circulating on social media, shows a Saudi individual assaulting one of the Egyptian workers inside his accommodation. This escalation led the workers to file a complaint with their embassy in Riyadh, which subsequently initiated legal action against the Saudi sponsor. On Thursday, the Egyptian community in Saudi Arabia announced via a Facebook post that the Egyptian Embassy in Riyadh held a meeting that morning with the assaulted workers. The meeting, attended by Consul General Ambassador Tarek El-Meligy and labor advisors from the embassy, involved officials listening to each worker's testimony individually and fully documenting their accounts to prepare for securing all their rights in accordance with established regulations. The community affirmed that a legal pathway has been opened to guarantee the workers' rights and ensure accountability for those responsible for the assault. They also emphasized that this was an isolated incident that in no way represents the nature of the relationship between the brotherly Egyptian and Saudi peoples, nor does it reflect the general reality of Egyptian labor in the Kingdom, which has enjoyed respect, appreciation, and care from all Saudi authorities for many decades.
