ECISD to choose OHS naming committee members
Feb. 14—The Ector County ISD Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 in the first floor board room of the administration building, 802 N. Sam Houston Ave. Among the items to be discussed are: — Discussion of and request for approval of Board of Trustees Recommendations for Naming Committee Membership for Odessa High School. During the fall semester of 2024, a request was received by the ECISD administration from the Military Order of the Purple Heart to name a portion of the OHS campus after PFC Alfred M. Wilson, a Medal of Honor recipient who graduated from the high school in 1967. Under district policy, recommended names will be submitted to a committee comprised of two members of the Education Foundation as selected by members of the Education Foundation; two members appointed by the board; three community representatives who live within the district and have been selected by the district's Continuous Improvement Team; three parent representatives who reside within the district and have been selected by the district's Continuous Improvement Team. The committee will be chaired by the superintendent or her designee and the committee will submit one or more recommended names. Board members were asked to recommend potential candidates for the two committee positions that are appointed by the board. Those who expressed interest and availability were Charles Cotten, Art Leal and Gordon Albright. As two members are appointed by the board, the administration recommends that each trustee complete a ballot that has the names of the three nominees. The two nominees with the highest number of votes will be recommended to the board of trustees for membership on the Odessa High School Naming Committee. — A bond 2023 update. — Discussion of 2025-2026 ECISD Campus Principal Administrator Contracts.) — A public hearing on the 2024-2025 ECISD Targeted Improvement Plans. — Under special presentations, introduction of Texas Music Educators Association All-State Musicians and recognition of the CREST Award for the Alternative Education Center.

ECISD workshop set
Feb. 7—The Ector County ISD Board of Trustees will meet in a workshop at 6 p.m. Feb. 11 in the first-floor boardroom of the administration building, 802 N. Sam Houston Ave. Trustees will discuss and be presented with several policy updates covering everything from fiscal management goals and objectives to intellectual property and student welfare. Some of the other items on the agenda are: — Presentation of the National Student Support Accelerator Research on AI Tutor Copilot with Virtual Math Tutoring. — Discussion of the 2024-2025 Targeted Improvement Plans. — Possible request to go into executive session.
