Jogendra Kumar appointed Prayagraj police commissioner in major IPS reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh
Jogendra Kumar LUCKNOW: In a major reshuffle of senior IPS officers, the Uttar Pradesh govt appointed Jogendra Kumar , the current Inspector General (IG) of Kanpur Range, as the new Commissioner of Police (CP), Prayagraj. He replaced Tarun Gauba , who was posted as IG, Lucknow Range. Notably, Jogendra Kumar previously served as SSP Allahabad in 2016. Prior to his posting as CP in Prayagraj, Tarun Gauba was IG Lucknow Range. He was shifted in June 2024 ahead of Maha Kumbh. The high-level reshuffle involves the transfer and appointment of 11 senior IPS officers across the state, aimed at boosting administrative efficiency and strengthening law enforcement. He earlier served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Hamirpur, Mau, and Fatehgarh, and as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Varanasi, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Ayodhya, and Agra. He also held the post of DIG/SSP Gorakhpur, where he was lauded for solving over 250 cases in just seven months in 2020. In 2012, during his posting in Mau, Kumar led a successful operation in which two notorious criminals were gunned down in an encounter. For his bravery, he was awarded the Police Gallantry Medal by the President of India in 2015. Harish Chandra, Additional CP in Kanpur, has been appointed as DIG, Kanpur Range. Sanjeev Tyagi, Additional CP in Agra Commissionerate, has been posted as DIG, Prisons Department, and Hemant Kutiyal, who held the dual charge of DIG Prisons and UPSSF, has been relieved of the Prisons responsibility, continuing with UPSSF alone. Ram Badan Singh, Additional CP Noida, has been transferred as Additional CP, Agra Commissionerate, and Pradeep Gupta, DIG Telecom, has been shifted in the same capacity to the Prisons Department. Constable felicitated for helping out elderly woman during Kumbh
Prayagraj: Commissioner of Police (Prayagraj) Tarun Gauba on Friday felicitated constable (gunner) Dharmendra Kumar with a citation for his excellent work during the 2025 Maha Kumbh. had offered a helping hand to an elderly woman at Prayagraj railway junction by carrying her on his shoulders and taking her to the platform and designated shelter slots. Awareness campaign to reduce lightning-related mishaps
Prayagraj: Authorities of the UP Fire and Emergency Services are all set to launch a comprehensive lightning awareness campaign, known as Lightning Safety Awareness Week to focus on education, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies to reduce lightning-related mishaps in the city, trans-Ganga, and trans-Yamuna areas of the Prayagraj district. The weeklong campaign will start on Monday and end on May 11. Chief Fire Officer (Prayagraj) RK Pandey told TOI, "On the directives of Commissioner of Police (Prayagraj) Tarun Gauba, officials of the fire department have drafted a weeklong awareness drive in the trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna areas of the district." He added, "The lightning safety awareness campaign will be taken up in all fire stations of the district, including Civil Line, Naini, High Court, Meja, Bara, Koraon, Handia, Phulpur, Soraon, as well as Fire Units Police Station Jhunsi, Karchana, and Dhoomanganj." The CFO mentioned that fire station officers (FSO) will hold chaupals among villagers and inform them about preventive measures in case of lightning. The CFO also stated that risk assessment and mitigation are the most important lessons, wherein people will be advised to adhere to weather forecast and early warning systems. Firemen will inform villagers about safe shelter points during thunderstorms. Under the specific safety guidelines, those working outdoors must avoid open fields, tall trees, and bodies of water. Indoors, people should avoid contact with electrical equipment, plumbing, and windows.
