More than 500 show up in La Crosse for Nationwide Day of Action Movement
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – According to local organizers, more than 500 people showed up in La Crosse on Saturday, April 19th, as part of the Nationwide Day of Action movement. The movement was to protest the proposed budget cuts affecting healthcare and food assistance.
The demonstration started at the corner of Losey Boulevard and State Road and spread north along Losey and west along State Road. Event organizer, Tasha Lewis, said, 'People are tired of being told there's 'no money' for food, housing, and healthcare while billions go to corporations and tax breaks for the rich. We're calling that out. And we're taking care of each other, because clearly, those in power won't.'
During the event, organizers also held a food drive to help families impacted by hunger. They were able to fill an entire food truck as well as collect monetary donations. As of now, no totals from that drive have been calculated.
