Bangladesh remain optimistic on fitness of Taskin Ahmed

Dhaka [Bangladesh], : Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed is expected to make his international cricket comeback during the team's multi-format tour of Sri Lanka in June, after having played his last international match during the ICC Champions Trophy in February, the ICC's official website reported. Bangladesh remain optimistic on fitness of Taskin Ahmed Bangladesh are confident that pace spearhead Taskin Ahmed will be fit to return to action for next month's ICC World Test Championship series in Sri Lanka. The Asian side will travel to Sri Lanka for a multi-format series that commences next month, with the two-match Test series the highlight as the teams start the next World Test Championship cycle. While Taskin has been battling an Achilles tendon injury and missed Bangladesh's recent two-match Test series at home against Zimbabwe, there is internal optimism that the right-armer will be fit to return to action next month and feature against Sri Lanka. Taskin recently met with specialists in London to determine the next step in his recovery, and the 30-year-old was advised he would not need surgery to fix his troublesome area. While Bangladesh's upcoming white-ball series against UAE and Pakistan has been deemed too soon for Taskin, it is hoped he will be fit to return in time to take on Sri Lanka with the first Test between the two teams taking place from June 17 in Galle. "The specialists believe that a conservative, non-surgical approach is the best course of action for Taskin at this time," Bangladesh senior physician Debashish Chowdhury said via a statement as quoted by ICC. "The rehabilitation programme is tailored to gradually restore his fitness and manage the tendon condition effectively. We are optimistic about his progress." "Taskin is expected to regain match fitness by early June, pending successful completion of his rehabilitation," the statement concluded. Taskin last featured for Bangladesh in a group stage match at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and is considered a vital part of the team's pace attack in all formats. Business owner on the mend after crossbow shooting, suspect in custody

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. (PIX11) — Police have arrested a man in connection to a business owner who was shot in the face with a crossbow at Birds By Joe 2 on Route 46. Raymond M. Carey, 53, of Hasbrouck Heights was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and charged with first-degree attempted murder. More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State The incident happened around 5:55 p.m. Monday. The victim, who is the owner of the business, was able to disarm the suspect after being shot, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. She sustained a broken tooth, among other facial injuries, and was rushed to the hospital. The suspect reportedly fled in a vehicle that was parked outside of the business, officials said. The victim's friend Denis Taskin, said the suspect is a regular customer at the store. 'She has no idea why he did it,' said Taskin. 'She said he comes here every other week to get seeds and other stuff, so we don't know why he did it.' 'She's doing better right now, but she's traumatized,' Taskin added. Ryan Oracz, the manager of The Original Bike Shop, the business adjacent to the bird store, saw the immediate aftermath of the attack and called 911. 'Katarina had walked in – more like ran in – screaming 'help me,' said manager Ryan Oracz. 'I jumped up from around the corner, and looked down the aisle, blood coming from her mouth and she had something in her hands. She proceeds to hand me a crossbow.' 90 underground holes found under I-80 in New Jersey: official Police were called to the store just two weeks ago after a customer stole a $7,000 African parrot. The parrot has safely been returned, but the person who stole it remains at large. It's unclear if the two incidents are connected, but the owner does not believe they are. The biggest concern is the owner's safety moving forward. 'She is there alone, often,' said Oracz. 'I just hope they start bringing in a second hand, somebody there that's with her at all times because there have been recent events.' Carey is in the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff's Office, pending an appearance in Bergen County Superior Court. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. BCB plans legal action against BPL team over payment row

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to take legal action against BPL team Durbar Rajshahi for failing to pay their overseas players and team hotel bills. According to Iftekhar Rahman, chairman of the BCB media committee, the board had given the franchise several chances to resolve the matter but has now run out of patience. The issue reached a breaking point when unpaid overseas players refused to play in Sunday's match against Rangpur Riders. This forced Rajshahi to field an XI made up entirely of local players, breaking BPL rules that require at least two overseas players in the playing XI. The BPL governing council allowed the rule to be bent, marking the first time in the tournament's history that a team played without any foreign players. "We have to take legal action by any means now," said Iftekhar. "The money has to be paid. Otherwise, BPL's reputation will be ruined. We have been patient, but they have crossed all limits. We will file cases for breach of contract and other violations." Despite the challenges, Rajshahi managed a surprising two-run win over table-toppers Rangpur. Captain Taskin Ahmed called it a "new experience" and shared the struggles the team faced on match day. "We had to change hotels on the morning of the game due to booking issues," Taskin said. "Then, just two hours before heading to the stadium, we were told the foreign players wouldn't play. The board asked us locals to go ahead and play, and we did our best to focus on the game." Taskin also revealed that local players received some payments on the same day, though there are concerns about whether the cheques will clear. "Everyone expects to play in a peaceful environment," he added. "But we're trying to stay positive and perform despite these issues." Six foreign players, including Pakistan's Mohammad Haris and Aftab Alam, have refused to play in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) citing unpaid dues. According to Bangladeshi media, the foreign players from BPL team Durbar Rajshahi boycotted matches over the non-payment of their salaries. This marks the second instance of such a dispute in the ongoing BPL season. The players refusing to participate include Lahiru, McCauley Cummins, Mark Doyle, and Ryan Burl, in addition to the Pakistani players. Due to the unavailability of foreign players, Durbar Rajshahi fielded an all-local batting lineup in their match against Rangpur Riders. All local players were included in the playing XI to compensate for the absence of the foreign stars.
