Oldest son arrested following shocking Gauteng family murder
A gruesome double murder shocked the quiet suburb of Henley on Klip near Meyerton, Gauteng, last night.
Vaalweekblad reports that according to Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, a spokesperson for SAPS, police responded to a distress call at approximately 19:15 and arrived at a house in Shiplake Street, where the bodies of a 54-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son were found near the property's gate.
The Henley on Klip CPF was first to respond and secured the scene so that the police could conduct a proper investigation without contaminating evidence.
Both victims had sustained multiple stab wounds to the neck, face and hands.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Taunyana confirmed that the prime suspect is the victims' older son (25).
He allegedly fled the scene but later handed himself over at Meyerton Police Station.
He is in custody and faces two counts of murder.
The man is expected to appear in court soon.
The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage.
Local crime scene experts and SAPS members, including a sergeant from the Local Criminal Record Centre, attended the scene.
The case is under investigation, and police have confirmed that a formal case number will be issued soon.
The community has been left reeling from the tragedy, with many residents expressing disbelief over the family violence.
Colonel Senzangakhona Christopher Mohale, the station commander at Meyerton SAPS, has assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway.
